Would it be possible for you to show pictures that show more of you room?

Second, I love the two last shades. Can you tell me where you found them? I would be so appreciative.

@Aphaea, the light green one is from ShadesofLight.com (French Clover Lamp shade) and the last one is from Wayfair.com (Fleur De Lis Living). Will try to get more pictures of the rest of the room.

Ok, here's the room. Ignore the furniture covers - fur kids live here. The chair under the sheet is brown upholstery.

Can't do mock-ups, but your room seems very warm and masculine, while the curvy urn lamps add a bit of femininity to the space. I would do shades in a warm tone but with curves to help the lady like urns blend in with the manly space. Can you use a lower harp? They seem very tall, and the neck added above the flare of the urn itself if making them too ungainly looking. A shorter harp might remedy that.

Hi Patricia-

The two lamp shades you showed have the shapes of the shallow bell and the scalloped bell, both of which are very old-timey.

We can relish antiques without actually re-creating a vintage room, or making it look like Grandma's house.

As to color, I don't see how a green shade enhances either the lamp or the room.

A patterned lamp shade would be "gilding the lily" and distracting the eye from the beauty of the lamp itself. Like too much make-up on a pretty girl.

Your lamps would look best with the same style of fabric shade that your white lamp has (without the studs) which is the tapered drum.

Although the really only way to know for sure is to go to the lamp shade store with your lamp and try on the lamp shades.

Well, you do only buy it once, get a good quality natural bristle brush for your vacuum cleaner wand and the shade will last forever! (Assuming doggy behaves :)

Take your lamps to a lampshade store and have them fitted with the proper style, shape , size and color! Yes it will cost more but you will end up with a much better looking lamp.

@lynartist I did take them to a lampshade store and that's where I got the off-white shades which are in the pictures of the rooms and also in the 2nd picture in the post. Those are the shades I currently use on these lamps. That store was our city's best and is now permanently closed. :( I love the shape, but feel that they blend into the blinds, color wise. I like the shape of the one you've done.

I think you need a shorter harp. I like those shades. I chose the one I pictured because it mimics the lamp base. Very often( not always) the base of a lamp can give you an idea of the shape for the shade. I like to keep the shades the same color throughout the room.

Perhaps you could introduce color in other areas of your room. It’s not that you can’t use a warmer color shade but your whole room is brown so in this case I would keep the light shades.

@decoenthusiaste and @lynartist Hmmm......in the first picture of the lamp detail - see the design or cut-outs in the neck of the lamp? I thought I should let that show. No? I hadn't thought of covering it by the shade but maybe I should give it a try. Oh yes - I have a zillion harps of all sizes!

These may have been some type of vessel that were converted into lamps at one time. Although the neck is decorative showing all of it throws off the balance of the lamp. Try a shorter harp and see how you like that.

I had one similar, and it had war representations. The shade was stained glass.

It’s also possible that the original shades for these were very tall elaborate ones, maybe even with fringe! It’s hard to say why these have that long neck!

I was told they had been oil lamps, converted for electricity. ?? The cords are not threaded through in what I would consider a logical place (not clear at the bottom and off-center.).
