Help! I have 5 weeks to get my house clean and organized.
Comments (42)t-bird, surgery is 1/31. On the list: Everything! (But we've painted most of what has to be painted, so my job, unlike yours, is just getting rid of stuff and cleaning every surface, like an old-fashioned spring cleaning.) We're empty-nesters so there are no kids' rooms to clean or kids to give attention and time to. Kitchen is about 90% done, foyer (only a little coat closet and some tile and the front door) is done. Workout room was just painted and is finished except for the closet, which is full of old political-campaign paraphernalia I need to box up or get rid of, and I don't really care much if I get to that or not. Downstairs too is my office, which is a sea of papers, and a TV room and guest bath. Upstairs I have the LR, dining area, and MB, along with 1 1/2 baths. So I may be able to get all of this done. I move very slowly because of my knee, so it takes a while. I'm not going to stress about it; whatever I get done will be better than what it was before I started. Storage area in basement and garage will probably wait until later. I'll join you in a 2012 cleanup project. Mine will be to finish up whatever I haven't done, if anything, before I go to the hospital, and then to keep things in order. I'm the messy one and DH is very neat. Good luck to both of us, t-bird. And may we enjoy the process!...See MoreLayout:Finally an organized presentation - Please help make it fa
Comments (24)I'm sorry, I'd like to help you but your plans are difficult to read. Since you are planning on doing Ikea boxes, could you possibly use their planner to show the room dimensions and post the result here? That would help us to help you immensely! In the mean time, (this is all from looking at your renderings, not the diagrams, which I cannot see well enough) I would suggest getting rid of the tall shelves that block your view of the rear door. I would hope that door has some glass to it to let in light, and if not, consider replacing it with one that does. I would center the range between the two windows on the back wall as a focal point, and use cabinetry to the counter to the right of the second window to create a "hutch" type of storage. Put the sink on the peninsula, and again, place cabinetry on the wall on the left, facing outward towards the peninsula. Again, take it all the way to the counter in order to maximize storage. Maybe use glass to keep it less of a visual barrier. That could be your main dish storage area, and if you did an appliance garage under it instead of another cabinet, you could store your coffee maker and toaster there. I'd use a smaller sink, and that would leave the peninsula as the social center of your prep....See Morehow to make my family room open floor plan cozy and put together
Comments (29)you may want to try sofa on the wall across from the window and love seat on window side. good job not crowding the window, by the way. if you move the sofa, keep the loveseat away from the window (you should be able to walk behind it) more on that later. having the sofas across from each other will open up the room and say "welcome, come on in" when you put a sofa across the room it says, caution keep out. your choice on how you want the room to feel. keep the sofa and loveseat the same distance from the fireplace sides, center them on fireplace not the room. if you want to keep the black footstool, try your red throw folded and draped over it and/or add a woven tray similar to your beautiful basket. (the tray will act as a place for snacks/remotes etc.) A lovely tall/and wide plant would be great behind/and to the side of the furniture on the window wall. (use a quality faux if you aren't a plant person or don't want to maintain it.)...See MoreNeed suggestions - make my living room lighter and cozy
Comments (61)a couple more thoughts... a ceiling light fixture will help and bring some interest for sure. have you thought more about one? art absolutely will help and so will pillows. I also think you might want to consider new inserts for pillows if you can. and larger size pillows like 20inx20in, not sure how that translates in com, but large size pillows will help. consider the size of the insert one size up from the size of the cover so it fills out the pillow and makes if more fluffy. if you get feather down inserts i would consider that too. thought I would share a couple pics that show how just a few additional features will make a difference. I like the idea of a couple large pillows on the floor too. I would style the coffee table a bit too...See Morefezzaroni
