Sea Pearl needs a backsplash II
Comments (150)Peke, you will get a beautiful look with just one color of the crackle. My silver has about 4-5 different tiles within the mix of them, having plenty enough interest. If you start mixing more than one color together (unless it's a mosaic), it's going to be crazy. I know cuz I wanted to mix some blues in with the silver & both my KD & the tile sales girl said NO. I can see now that it would have ruined the mix. It ends up all blending together & creating a beautiful, interesting look with depth (and sparkle when you get close). Not a busy look. It all blends. I like the Riviera better than the Bali. Sounds like you do too. That's one eliminated. You don't like the celery (the description has yellow sage in it). Two gone. The Moonlight isn't doing much for the Sea Pearl & I'm guessing the Ice isn't either? The Storm is going to give you the most variation, the 5th on the left side of the tile board. My tiles sat on my counter for 6 weeks because I thought they were too taupey & I wanted some blue. Once they were up & grouted, a totally different look. Like Bookworm said, you just have to pick. I think you now have the largest collection of Encore samples on Gardenweb. I love crackle tiles. If Seapearl's tile isn't in this bunch, there are more manufacturers of beautiful crackle. Here the level of variation in your samples: Ice -minimum variation Moonlight-moderate Sky- minimum to moderate Bali - moderate Riviera - moderate Mint - moderate Celery- minimum to moderate Cashmere- moderate to high Lagoon-moderate Slate-moderate to high Storm-high Stream- high Cameo (bookworm's) - moderate Silver- (mine) - moderate This post was edited by romy718 on Sun, Mar 16, 14 at 13:35...See More2A Sea Pearl needs a backsplash...not III
Comments (41)UPDATE... I have been taking care of my dad who had dementia so remodeling ground to a halt. I still don't know whether or not to put stainless steel behind my range top. My vent hood is 3" from the wall so I have that gap to deal with if I don't put a piece of stainless steel there. If I put only a tile backsplash, what do I do with the gap from pulling the hood out from the wall? Would I regret glass tile and cleaning all that grout? I even thought about putting tile instead of SS, then adding a piece of clear glass over the tile/grout behind the range top to make it easy to clean. I am not sure if glass can take the heat there. I can't figure out what to do so I do nothing. Thanks for any advice....See MoreBacksplash for Sea Pearl Quartzite - Help!!
Comments (19)lmgch - I remember your kitchen; so beautiful! Your backsplash is lovely. I recall it's from Porcelanosa, correct? I considered getting a sample when you posted your reveal, but we have no Porcelanosa dealers in my state. I do like that there is a pattern in yours; it adds a nice touch. herbflavor - I understand what you're saying. Agree that we need something that pulls it all together. My concern about mosaics is that they are trendy (of course, the same could be said about white subways with gray grout). eam44 - I loved the Fireclay Hydrangea immediately. My search actually began with glass and glass mosaics. The Sea Pearl evokes feelings of coastal, so I thought glass might work. I almost went with the green glass mosaic below, then thought glass in general would be too trendy. I want something unique (I know...subways are not!) that is neutral enough to not steal the show from the Sea Pearl. I had ruled these out (marble - too bathroomy?, glass - too trendy?)...maybe I should revisit. So unsure!!...See Morekitchen paint color with ice matte sea glass backsplash
Comments (14)Thanks for all of your suggestions! I think the blue I chose is way too blue, and the tile is not in yet. The paint looks beautiful, and the tile/paint won't be next to each other directly. I'm really unsure. The pic above is exactly how i hope it will turn out! I will post pics when done. My biggest issue is that the room blends into the dining room (with what is left of the wall we took down), so I was guided to keep colors in the same family, which seemed tough for me....See MoreB H
