Wal-Mart Dendrobium...can you believe I think it has a virus???
Comments (23)Hort, who are these professionals? You will be hard pressed to find them. I've been trying to grow things for 37 years and still plants cark it. That is why we need an orchid forum. Sometimes you will find in posts little hints that make a difference. Anyway, it all comes down to conditions, conditions, conditions. Your Wal-Mart Dendrobium is probably a hard-cane, i've got about thirty of them and not many people grow them around these parts because they are considered "Difficult" . As for the disease, your plant is just showing what happens when conditions do not suit. I had one that grew too big, thought i would trial it outside a glasshouse and put it in a sheltered position of the front porch, sheltered position, morning sun. It declined! Moved it to my shadehouse. It declined more and then died. Your plant has declined to such a point that perhaps you should discard it and start off with a new one. These are the "weeds" of Florida, Hawaii, Queensland, Australia. They like moderate humidity, warmth, even watering, though slightly less in winter and sunlight filtered by some like shade-cloth. How can i tell you how to grow them seeing my total orchid experience is here? That is the real problem with orchid growing, you have to do some research and follow that up with some interpretation in relating what you read to your growing place(s). Even then many you try will just die....See MoreLowes and WalMart Bulbs
Comments (42)Here is the last of the Walmart bulbs in bloom. It just bloomed this week. I think this one is Amigo. Although I confess I did not label my Walmart bulbs. The red is really deep. The photo doesn't do it justice really. It's a true red, not the orange tinge that is reflected in the photo. It got two flower scapes and they both bloomed at the same time. So it really packs a punch....See Morehow big is Wal-Mart?
Comments (34)Wal-Mart is a store of convenience, and that like it or not is what we all want. My grandkids use a phrase called sencya ( SINCE YOUR) already up bring me a coke or what ever. Wal-Mart is a sencya, since your already there why not go ahead and get that hardware product or fishing equipment, etc. That way i don't have to make that extra stop at the hardware or sporting goods store or what ever. My grandfather owned a mom & pop grocery for over fifty years. That was back when there was no way they'd let you even consider carrying your own groceries out to the car much less load them in the trunk. That was even before the small stores stayed open on Sun. of if they even did was only half a day. I can remember many a time as a child we would be having a family dinner at grandparents when gramps would get a phone call saying someone was having a family dinner and had forgotten to pick up something or someone had run out of baby milk, can you help us out. gramps would go unlock the store so the people could pick up what they had forgot in the six days he was open. He never complained or said,no. I worked with him for many years, as did my mom and her two brothers. Many a time a senior or someone without a way to the store would call and give there grocery order and we'd deliver. Remember many bad winters where we would deliver groceries on snowmobiles to many snowbound families. Those were the good old days, gone forever. Small stores can't compete with the prices, they can't order in the volumes that the super stores can. Have Wal-mart seven miles from me and i've never run into any workers that don't speak english, now on the other hand have one 15 miles from us and lots of workers don't speak english very well or just learning how....See MoreDid you purchase your eggs at Wal Mart?
Comments (27)California has higher standards for the treatment of egg-laying chickens than elsewhere. Cages can be used but they need to be larger than what's standard in the egg industry, thus, egg prices are higher no matter what. Personally, I prefer cage-free, organic eggs as Scott describes. They taste better. They're more expensive than regular eggs all the same but the taste difference is more than worth it and, as mentioned, eggs remain an inexpensive food. Those in states without California's rules can all the same buy organic eggs and be sure the chickens have the best possible treatment, including the ability to spend time outside scratching in the dirt as chickens like to do....See MoreElmer J Fudd
