Yes, we have an app. 450 lb bear that roams the neighborhood since we have several hundred acres of forest and farmland behind us. DH took a picture of prints early this spring, they were by our pond where all these rows are going (but all I've seen lately are turkey and deer prints). DD and I saw a young one (maybe 200 lb and moving FAST!) running across the road on the way home the other night. Hmm, I told DH I'd have the topsoil dumped near the house so he could use it to fill in low spots in the lawn and to fill a terraced bed he started digging out on the side of the slope near the old garden (where the soybeans are going this year). So not going to use it for the summer veggies. I was thinking of using the coffee in place of the manure (though I don't think I'd put it 6" thick!) at the bottom of the trenches, for the slow-release N? Need to mix it with leaf mold (hope DH can get that today while I'm getting his topsoil) to fluff it up, maybe some decomposed wood chips? Then we'll see what/how much is in the bottom of the compost pile(s). Of course I'll throw some "dirt" in there too LOL! What do you mix in with your UCG for the other 75%? Hasn't been 24 hours yet, but my quart jar is showing 3" of solids settled out of the 4" I started with, only 2 layers - about 2" of sand and 1" of finer-grained silt, and then just murky water above. I dug the soil from only a few inches deep, in a few spots, like I would for a soil test (not as many samples though), didn't dig deep. There is one area (the wet ledgy area) that I think might have some clay in it, I didn't mix that in, I don't think there's really any clay in this soil. I'll see what settles out of the water over the course of the AM, but I don't think there's much OM in this soil either. There's a thin "scum" of dark material on the surface of the water right now - that may be it (1/16"?).

I had one of these installed in a second bathroom when I was caring for two aging family members with mobility concerns. It worked but was not ideal. I needed to have the insert out while they got into the tub and then close it to add water which meant they sat in the cold waiting for water to be added. We eventually advanced to using a shower bench and this did make it easier to get in and out but there was some leakage around the opening even with a long shower curtain. Both of them are gone now and I'm debating if I should have the original tub restored ( if you save the section of tub that was removed during installation it can be welded back into place) or leave it as is. It looks a little hokey but would be fine in a kids bathroom or if one was caring for someone with compromised mobility. I will be selling my home in the near future and am unsure how best to proceed.

It rained and the channel filled with water at the low end. I am going suck the water out, put dirt on top and see how things go. I'm starting to think I've just wanted some time but it's a learning experience at the very least.

millworkman- The biggest concern is for horizontal or near horizontal surfaces, like curbs. I have one shower that has a track at the bottom for the sliding door. It rests on the curb in a bed of silicone but is only mechanically attached at each end with a clip that has a single stainless steel screw into the wall, and the screwholes and screws were are well-siliconed. The problem is that if you penetrate a water-proofed, horizontal surface, it has to remain perfectly caulked forever because water does not drain away quickly as it does on vertical surfaces. That is one of the reasons I prefer to see clips used only on wall surfaces, and to have the bottom edge of the glass siliconed to the floor/threshold.
