Color challenged Need advise on exterior paint reddish brown roof.
I was hoping someone could give me advise on choosing exterior house paint. I live in Florida so there is a lot of sun. I wanted to paint my ranch house a yellow color so that the feel would be happy and like a cottage. I am having a hard time choosing a yellow color to go with the reddish roof. The color in the pictures is a mellow yellow. Should I change the color to a more neutral color like cream or go with a a more toned down yellow (If so can you recommend a color. I don't want the house to lock drab . Also, what color would you suggest for trim around windows and the garage as well as the window box. Once completed I will tackle the landscaping. Here a few photos of the house. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with making this choice as I am truly color challenged. Thank you so much!

3 years agoA gray-green would be a nice option with your roof. Looks nice with a soft white trim. The siding color here is Benjamin Moore Saybrook Sage. Though the roof appears to be charcoal, you can see the siding color works with the patio color.

3 years agoYour pictures are tiny. Can you crop the white, so the picture is larger?
One of my favorite yellows is Benjamin Moore's Hawthorne Yellow.
Light Khaki is a more muted yellow.
Look at Weston Flax as another option.

Comments (10)Handsome house. There are a whole range of grays, so you do have to get the right one. I would pick a light shade. If you do go gray, how about white for the shutters? Unless you are thinking of removing them. The one double window should have them. I wouldn't paint the brick skirting. There isn't much and it add interest to the facade. I like the fence. Comments (5)The dark magenta-brown siding limits what can be done. I think a dark gray roof is probably the best choice—an antique bronze or charcoal perhaps. You want to be conservative with roof color because you can't just paint over it. You can look at various colors online from most roofing manufacturing companies. Choose a sample home with red brick for a better comparison to your siding color. Because the siding has a red-purple tone I looked at trim colors with blue to red tones. The photo below shows two dark blue-grays and two lighter colors from the purple and red parts of the spectrum, all from Sherwin-Williams. Of course, these are color combinations that I liked paired with a siding color most similar to yours (SW6026 River Rouge). You should take a look at their ColorSnap visualizer and form your own opinion. There are lots of other colors that you may prefer.
