Wet, clay soil... Tree Recommendation?

K

Hi!

I live in zone 6b or 7, depending on the map.

Today, we had to take down a 30-40’ oak tree that had severe canopy die back. Arborist said it was the wrong tree for the spot—too wet

I was originally thinking of planting a weeping willow in this spot, but after reviewing an old thread on River Birch vs Weeping Willow, I’m having second thoughts (“weak wood”, “messy”, etc)

Due to the placement of the tree, it will be very much a focal point for curb appeal for my home. There’s a fair amount of space between my house and my neighbor

I’d love something that will shade the house at some point. Foliage would be nice as well. But with the soil wet almost all the time (not a swamp, but it definitely retains moisture), I have been focused on the Weeping Willow thus far.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!
