What does it mean if a guest says that your house is cozy?
Comments (16)Coziness is in short supply in houses now. So many of even the great old ones have been opened up inside, had skylights and windows punched through their envelopes, interior ceilings removed to create cathedral ceilings, etc. To enter a house designed to keep its inhabitants physically comfortable as opposed to exalted and freezing induces a wonderful sensation of..coziness! Imagine! A house where one can have a private conversation in a separate room at the end of a hall......See MoreWhen was the last time someone doubted your word?
Comments (37)I was about 12 years old, and was taking a test in school, when the principle came to the door and said there was an incident I was involved in, and needed to come to the office. I had no idea what he was talking about. The teacher said as soon as I finished the test, he would send me. My mind went blank and I couldn't concentrate. I am sure I failed the test. I went to the office and when I got there, a little neighbor girl of ours, age about 6, was there and her older brother. (Small school...all grades in one building). The story was that when I was walking to gym class the day before, and walked through the recess yard where younger children were playing, I picked up this little girl's dress and looked at her panties and called her a "debbil". I didn't even know what a debbil was...I thought it was a bad word that I didn't know the meaning of. Later, I figured out she meant that I had called her a "devil". I don't know why that little girl said that. The idea that I would lift up her skirt to see her panties was mind boggling. But, she had said that...and told her parents, who called the school and, hence, I was in the princple's office being questioned about it. I was crying and I couldn't remember even seeing her the day before. Supposedly other kids saw it, so they were called in, and no one saw it. (Of course, because it didn't happen.) After about an hour, the principle told her it wasn't nice to lie and she had to appologize to me. She said, "I'm sorry Marilyn. I told a lie." I was so distraught and sick, I went to the bathroom and cried my eyes out. But, worse than that incidence...in '95, my husband fired a deckhand. To make a long story short, to get back at him, the deckhand got his girlfriend to say that her children had been out to our place, here on the bayou....we didn't live here at the time, and my husband had molested them. They filed charges...filled out a report several pages long that said they were out here every weekend for 6 weeks, swimming nude in the bayou and riding horses. No one rides my horses...not even me. They aren't broken. Even tho our place is remote...there is a lot of boat traffic on the bayou in the summer. This is MY place...at the time, my husband hardly ever came out here because he was working, but I was here every day. We didn't even know the woman or the kids. Later they tried to recant, but the charges couldn't be dropped. It took 15 months and cost us $60,000. Now, if that won't give you a sorry outlook on the human race, nothing will....See MoreWhen your taste exceeds your means?
Comments (57)My problem is that I get bored of things or I get buyer's remorse or a couch gets a stain on it that I can't get out! So I want high quality, but at a reasonable price in case one of the above happens! I spend a lot of time shopping around! I am redoing my bedroom and found a photo of a look I liked. I searched and found the fabric for the drapes and it was something like $300 per yard so I abandoned that idea. I looked all over and found drapes in almost the same fabric at Pier 1. They are a black and white graphic pattern. They were extremely inexpensive. Now if I want to change to flowing white drapes, I don't mind replacing them. I also looked all over for my duvet cover and shams. After looking at so many of them, I actually found my favorite at JC Penney! Very inexpensive, great quality and I love it! I saw many tufted headboards in my research. After looking at them all, I found someone on etsy that makes headboards and she has great reviews and is very reasonably priced. Now if I get bored of that style, I don't mind changing. I love the headboard! The one thing I splurged on was the fabric for my throw pillows. It was $150 per yard with a 2 yard minimum. I was really hesitating about purchasing the fabric, but then I found pillows made in that fabric on etsy for about $70 each. They bring everything together in the room perfectly. I looked and looked but couldn't find anything as pretty with those colors. I am extremely happy with the result! So I really do believe you can find things you love at a lower price. My couch in my living room is from Rowe furniture. I looked at very expensive couches everywhere. The one I loved the most was at a store and it was Rowe. And it was not that expensive. It has been so well made and looks just as beautiful as the higher priced sofas....See MoreDoes your dog sleep on your (or someone else's) bed?
Comments (53)Yes! Our 85 lb.lab starts his nightly routine on the bed with us, then a couple of hours later heads to his other bed on the floor or to "his" leather couch in the family room. He will then rejoin us around 5am. During the time he is off the bed, we are joined by our two cats who lay at the foot of the bed. All three provide snuggle service, heat warmers, back support and sometimes a back massage when my lab is in dreamland and gets all four paws moving. DH and I have been married 39 years and have never slept without a pet on the bed, with the exception of travel and neither of us sleeps very well....See MoreJulie
