First remove the shutters they are all wrong for those windows than choose a darker color from the stone for a new siding color and get a new front door with more glass and in a color that works with the new siding color.. Add some much larger planters and fill them with seasonal plants that will liven up your entry and those can be placed to replace those 2 tiny planting spots . I would do black planters in a taller shape and larger filled to overflowing with colorful plants . Then get to work on some new landscaping that does not over power the house a walkway from the street to the front door is always a nice look.

I agree a color from the stone would be good. The roof color looks like it already works nicely with the stone. Your double and triple windows are really too wide for properly sized shutters. Each shutter should be half the window's width.

Thank you all. I appreciate your comments and the feedback on the shutters. I am thinking about board and batten shutters and possibly even hinged or folding shutters at least for upper windows. As for paint, I am leaning towards Intellectual Gray (SW 7045) for siding, Shoji White (SW 7042) for trim and windows, and Urbane Bronze (SW 7048) for shutters and even gutters. Last but not least a red orange for front door in a sort of cedar color. Thoughts?

The windows are not right for shutters, so changing them to board and batten will not make a difference.

Intellectual Gray and even the two lighter shades look like a good fit with the stone. I would paint the trim and the gutters Shoji White.

Lots of homes in my neighbourhood were built like yours, with a small section of stone veneer. Many people have gotten rid of it when repainting. Either painted over the veneer with masonry paint, or they have gone right over it with stucco. That style was really popular in the 70's when my neighbourhood was built and it does update the style of the house nicely to remove it.

IMO shutters are like eye liner - they give a little "pop" to the windows and aren't meant to fool anybody that they're real functioning shutters. So I would say keep your shutters if you like them. Others on Houzz feel strongly that shutters must look like they could really close and cover the windows. So your window type would never have shutters.

Intellectual Gray and Shoji White sound good to me, too.

Regarding your upper windows, shutters should look like they could actually cover and protect your windows if they could actually close. That would require very wide shutters for your windows which can look odd. You can also see the problem it creates for your lower, triple window.

ETA - Just saw partim's post. Most shutters I see aren't sized right. So, yes, keep them if you like the look. I've seen some pretty crazy things done with exterior shutters, such as adding them to bay windows. I have a friend who even put them on her kitchen garden window. :-\

The stone gives your home a casual country feel, so the rigid and formal hedges look very out of place. I would pull those out and install a more open and airy landscape using lots of native perennials that will thrive in your locale but not become invasive. The concrete planters are also of a different era than your country home, so remove them. Consider installing some landscape lights that highlight the stone. And since the stone is so massive, I would remove the little arch details on your porch posts and beef up the posts themselves so they have adequate visual heft to stand beside the massive stone wall and look like they can support your porch. Are you replacing the roof or cleaning it? I would take care of that before choosing a siding color, and I vote to remove the shutters. You should probably upgrade the porch lighting too.

I should acknowledge that photo was taken for me to compare before and after roof cleaning. So yes we’re planning to clean the roof very soon. I tried doing it myself on one side with very little success. Thanks.
