OT: Faux brick painting
Comments (27)I've really enjoyed reading this thread, why anyone would want to paint over a beautiful brick fireplace is beyond me, Edna do carry on it's looking wonderful. I've dry brushed other colors to give things that antique look in the past. Our house is old with small rooms, the living room is quite small and the people we bought it from had a fireplace put in sometime before they put the house up for sale. It's a really good wood burning unit but it was faced with rose colored roman tile which I detest, soooooo, the last time I painted the walls an off white/gray I painted the fireplace as well. We had one of those glass doors with a fan installed so it looks a hell of a lot better now then when it was rose colored. If mine had a brick finish to start with I would have changed the whole room to accent the fireplace. I'm still looking for something for a mantle, I'm leaning towards a piece of driftwood. Comments (140)Actually, the quintessential steampunk piece is a modern computer decked out to look like a 19th century device. I met a guy profiled in the Boston Globe who has a steampunk house, and whose kitchen was featured here once. He was selling a cast iron Victorian stove that had been outfitted with a barely-discernable electric cooktop. It's not so much working Rube Goldberg contraptions as it is window dressing on modern technology. I think of it as a stage set in search of a story. Let's say Steampunk is a definite one month from now, as the project that follows the next one. For the very next one to start this weekend, I'm thinking Hollywood Regency, based on an unscientific review of the preference lists people have posted so far. I would sort of like to do the setup for Steampunk, so if you'd rather I not do two in a row, I can happily defer to pal on the HR project. Thoughts?...See MoreShould I keep the faux beams?
Comments (21)Yes fori one has been starting to fall for a couple of years and ive never taken the time to figure out how to reattach it. I think the space will end up looking like it has higher ceilings when they are gone and you look at the room from the kitchen (split level, kitchen is two stairs higher than this room) The beams are almost eye level from a distance when in the kitchen. Ive also thought about repurposing one of them for a mantle because it will be long enough to span the entire mantle which is currently just a narrow slab of stone. The beam wont offer up much more shelf space, but it will add some interest to the mantle...See MoreHas anyone installed foam core faux ceiling beams?
Comments (7)Thanks! I posted these photos in another thread but figured I’d add here too. We want to cover this skinny beam with something a little wider that can be stained. Trying to decide what would look more like a beam (wood wrapped around the existing beam or faux wood beam). I’m worried about the seams in real wood....See MoreNatalie Moore
