Building a Home Lighting Design Dilemma

Help - Kitchen Lighting for Vaulted Ceiling

I'm currently building a home and we are trying to pick out pendant lights for our vaulted kitchen. Our house is craftsman style and I'm having trouble finding something. Our neighbor's house has a very similar layout (see picture below), but I would like to pick out a different style. What pendant lights would look best in a vaulted ceiling? Keep in mind we are sticking with a mostly white kitchen.

I would love to put brushed nickel lanterns in the space but my builder doesn't think they would look as good as glass pendants.

Any ideas or suggestions would be very helpful.

"Both of those spaces have horrible lighting plans. And kitchen designs. To the point of being an actual hazard to work in them. Lighting is just the tip of the iceberg in the uselessness of a vaulted ceiling in a kitchen. The extra height causes many many issues. All expensive."

Do you realize how you come across @User, or do you just not care about how you make other people feel? If I was to poll other houzzers on how they feel about the majority of your comments, they would agree. Go claw your way out of the live wires, perhaps you need a little exposure to shock.

Have you considered eliminating the vaulted ceiling? It appears to serve little purpose, except make it more difficult to select light fixtures.

Have you see arroyo craftsman fixtures?

That vaulted ceiling is wonderful! I have one in my kitchen and love it. I think the glass pendants are hard on the eyes and cause a glare. I think you can find others that are not glass and will be beautiful and bring in interest.

Sorry about the late reply! For the outdoor light -- look for "outdoor light sconces" or "outdoor wall lights" ..... ..... or for an articulated arm light -- then check out "wall sconces" .....

I would go with the 2700k for most areas. except for a study/ work area that would be used late into the night. A higher color temp impairs the production of melatonin which could result in difficulty sleeping. Use the flat ceiling can & trim if the angle is <= 15 degrees. The CR6 and similar lights (RT6, ...) tend to have more light spillage than the BR or PAR bulbs used in recessed lighting i.e. - less of a spotlight effect. Some people may find it tricky to get the lamps fit. If the ceiling is high - 10' or more, indirect / cove lighting may be more elegant and practical.

Hi, I’m remodeling the kitchen and desperately need help with LED recessed lights. Does anyone know which ones are good for vaulted ceilings? One side of the ceiling goes to 16’ I really like the direct mount and would like to avoid cans if possible. Anyone know of direct mount directional/adjustable ones? Tried google but could not find any except the ones with cans. Thank you very much in advance

My kitchen is definitely more rustic than yours, and I really wanted the glass pendants, but the lighting was not effective and bugged me. I switched to non glass and happy.

Try to find a light you love that is “sloped ceiling adaptable”. 99% of lighting is sloped ceiling adaptable, so don't worry about that, cord falls straight, chain falls straight, most with rods has an actuating arm to let them fall straight.

You are trying to get the craftsman vibe than search " modern craftsman" pendants.

also, make sure they put in SLOPED CEILING CANS for you recessed.

Against my better judgement I will have to speak to your comments live-wire-oak. It is not a hazard to work in my space as I have been doing it for 3 years now. I don’t see a hazard in the other kitchen either. The lighting is not horrible, in fact it’s perfect...In my pic I didn’t even have all the lights on. The design works perfectly. The extra height has no issues I can’t afford. I hope the OP will continue on with his dream kitchen. It will work, it’s beautiful.
