Comments (8)On Facebook recently, I recall seeing a soft crochet ball being used as an ottoman. Something like that would be safe for a toddler. Would NOT invest in a rug -- too easy for a toddler to trip over. Small room doesn't need it. You could decorate the room by focusing on decorating the walls. For the corner to the left of the door, a wood two drawer file cabinet could double as an end table rather -- solid and heavy than something lighter that could be pulled over. Then push your sofa against that. Plants and toddlers don't usually mix well. You could add a bracket for a flower hanging basket above the fixed side of your patio door -- hung out of reach of your toddler. You might try one flower in a very large, tall, heavy pot placed in front of the fixed side of your patio door to see if you can train the toddler to leave your plants alone. Wouldn't invest in more till you can get your toddler trained. You might also be able to find an adult sized bean bag chair -- no hard sharp edges -- in addition to a colorful bean bag chair especially for your toddler. For additional lighting, consider wall hung lamps behind your sofa rather than something that could be pulled over. https://www.lampsplus.com/products/lanett-brushed-nickel-swing-arm-plug-in-wall-lamp-set-of-2__1x503.html Since the safety of your toddler is obviously a priority, you might consider investing in a plastic toy box in lieu of a coffee table -- preferably one with a flat part that might be used as a coffee table whenever the toddler is asleep. https://www.step2.com/c/kids-furniture/toy-boxes-storage/...See Moreneed help with couches/color in our family room
Comments (3)I would probably get a deep gray/grape purple couch and deep wine red chairs and add some vinyard art, but if I had to pick only from your two samples I would agree with Suzannamcd and do dark on the chairs and the lighter on the couch....See MoreBlue rug, yellow walls, taupe couch family room design help
Comments (12)First thought is to move the whole seating area down toward the fireplace so the the end table is centered on the far window. My moving the seating area down, you may be able to have a sofa table behind for some lamps. I would look at plantation shutters although if I could convince you I’d go with drapes too. It will help to balance that wall out and add some softness as well as add some visual ‘pop’ if you chose a pattern. With that said, with drapes you wouldn’t need any artwork because the wall space would be taken up by the drapes. I’d remove the mirrored piece to the right by the entry as it looks like it’s floating out in space. I would also consider doing something else other than artwork. There is so much out there like wall planters, metal art, something 3-dimensional. Just an FYI, there are apps like BeCasso that will take an existing photo and turn it into a watercolor, oil paining, pop art. Then you can order it as print, canvas or whatever. I did some mediocre mock-ups so you can get a feel for what some of this would look like. I also included a pic of a house like yours so that you may want to put something in the entry. I wouldn’t two two items just one....See MoreHelp! Sectional or Two Sofas in Open / Odd Family Room
Comments (16)I agree that furniture needs to move closer to the fireplace/TV. I guess the problem I’m Having is the French doors. They are not being removed, they are staying where they are. So, considering sizes of loveseats and even sectionals. I will be blocking those doors. what is the rule about blocking the French doors? We do use them sometimes. The living room is on the other side and then it gets a lot of use these days with everyone being home....See MoreChristina
