What should I do with the crown moulding near my hood?
Comments (9)Thanks Breezy - I think that's a good idea. The hood is flush with the cabinets at the top so I think that's where it get's strange. You can't run the crown into anything. It's a Modern Aire hood that I found on Ebay. Original owner installed and didn't like it. For her trouble, I got it for about 75% off and was able to pick it up locally! Gosh, I do love a bargain....See MoreShould I put in crown molding?
Comments (7)We don't have very high ceilings (I think 8') in our dining room and I still think our moulding looks nice. We did stay away from the wider moulding - I think ours is 3 or 4 inches wide - because of the smaller scale. I don't think you have to have crown moulding when the wall color isn't the same as the ceiling, though. It would still be fine to do two different colors if you didn't have moulding. What kind of window treatments will you have? Depending on your treatments, it might look fine to have moulding on the section of the fourth wall that doesn't have windows. Or you could put some kind of cornice over the top part of the window....See MoreShould ceiling and crown molding paint color match?
Comments (8)I think it depends on the overall scheme: In the 18th and early 19th century it was often painted the same color as the walls if it was wood millwork and it was often painted the same color as the ceiling if it was ornamental plaster work. Through the middle of the 19th century into the 20th century when stained woodwork was in vogue, it was often stained, which made it different than both the walls and the ceiling. Then when everyone started painting all this stained woodwork white, it got painted white. I think it depends on the room and what you want it to look like. There isn't really any final answer except it usually isn't it's own exclusive color....See Moreadding top to cabinets to the top with crown molding
