Alcohol is not alkaline either. *However* these things as well as detergent would have a terrible effect on soil life, which was, of course, the joke. I would not worry about soil unless it was VERY dusty and dry outside and the dust was bothering me (tightness in the chest, sneezing etc.). OR if my immune system was compromised. Compost I try to turn when it's damp, not dry, to reduce dust and spores. Soil is the ecstatic skin of the Earth, it's an efficient and powerful recycler of wastes, filter system for water, and grower of wonderful things. Comments (29)Those that are immuno-suppressed such as those on chemo have been advised to wear masks in public for decades, nothing new about that. But to expect those that have been vaccinated to continue to wear masks tells people that the vaccines are ineffective. Israel has proven that they are effective, they have closed all their covid wards due to lack of patients. To continue punishing and inconveniencing those fully vaccinated with unnecessary requirements will reduce the rate of vaccination. We don't know what level of herd immunity is required to end new infections but we must be close due to the rapid drop in numbers. Funny, last year most posters here vehemently denied that herd immunity was a solution. Partially right........But why don't you care about protecting others from a highly contagious disease that might leave them sick for years and years to come? Regardless, here's why you're only partially right: Protecting others is also necessary for protecting yourself. The more other people that become infected with Covid, the more opportunity the virus has to mutate. The more the virus mutates, the less likely it is that the vaccinations (and especially natural immunity) will continue to protect us. I'm sure you can see that's particularly important when it comes to transportation hubs and methods, where people from a bunch of different places with a range of different immunity mix. People were out in the hallway waiting to get in. Inside there were people on beds in the hallways. I feel so bad for the health care providers. I can’t imagine working like this for well over a year." Like NHBaskets I was in an ER this week and had the exact same experience/reaction. My father broke his hip Tuesday, evidently trying to get up and probably relieve himself at the ALF where he is in memory care. He was taken to the closest emergency room at an excellent hospital nearby. I've been there many times with my MIL who also has dementia and also is in memory care-at the same ALF(!) and who used to fall regularly. Because of his mental state I was allowed to go in. The entrances were closed, instead the only way in was through a giant tent set up with airlocks and which had a huge temporary waiting room inside, filled with what must have been a couple of hundred people sitting waiting for treatment-all with masks, some lying down, mostly young to middle aged. My dad stayed on a gurney in the hallway; there were no cubicles open. I sat with him in the hall for almost 8 hours, which happened to be near the ambulance bay. No exaggeration, literally every 2-3 minutes along came a pair of EMTs wheeling patients into the ER. People unconscious, people gasping for breath, people with those bag valve breathing masks, mostly young with a few middle agers and only a couple of elderly folks. It was like being in the modern version of those woodcuts of plague wards. My dad was there 24 hours before we could get him moved to an inpatient hospice care facility.
