Stink Bug breakthrough...
Comments (12)Yeah, I'm aware that fall cultivation, clean up of debris will eliminate their overwintering sites......as well as taking away places for the good guys to overwinter. I live in the South, and where some places have one or two generations of a certain bug a year, we can have four or more! So, last year I didn't clean up debris, cultivate, etc. This has been a bad year for bugs- so it might be a good idea to do it this fall. However, after reading some posts, I'm not the only one who had bug problems. I blame some of it on the weather. Problem with stinkbugs coming in house: I read that they can do this, attracted to heat and light. I live in a rented, old house with plenty of bug/mouse openings. It's rented, and right now we can't afford to seal it up properly...so that doesn't help me. I see wasps flying around in the kids room, spiders(don't mind them too much) , leafhopper, etc. If it is outside, it gets in....See MoreHotfixes on XP SP2 after doing a recovery?
Comments (9)Was not ignoring your input -- just researching what you both said. (As well as getting sidetracked by trying to get things working since the Recovery. :] ) Whew... Owbist, I didn't want to get SP3 just yet. Ryan's site has all of those updates bundled in one package -- that's why I thought it might be worth considering. Also was wondering if anyone else might have downloaded the package and what they thought of it. I do so trust people's opinions from this forum -- the help I've received over the years has been invaluable. Raven, I immediately clicked on the link you offered. Spent mucho time going back there to find the "Download" for that update. Couldn't find it yesterday. Spent more time again today. Just went to the link again a few minutes ago and -- lo and behold -- M/S had magically added a prominent Download button! Ha. Thanks, I did d/l the file. I appreciate the input/advice from you two. This is such a great forum. I hadn't been here much recently, but I always, always recommend it to others. Thanks again, Kat P.S. On my Compaq computer desktop is an icon entitled "Help and Support." Was able to get to the correct Windows place, whereby I downloaded and installed the 74 old updates I needed!...See MoreFeline Vestibular Disease - any recovery stories out there?
Comments (132)In my opinion ( not a vet, just a long time cat person of many decades) "slowly losing some weight" does NOT sound like you need to think about euthanasia just yet. Did vet have other options or did he just jump right to euthanasia? Have you tried good old fashioned meclazine - aka an over the counter motion sickness med. Should consult with vet or someone re exact dosage. Is your cat interacting with you, is she accepting the syringe readily and perhaps getting adequate amt of food that way? Or are you fighting her to get it in? Have you pulled out the proverbial "big guns" in an effort to try to jump start her appetite - tuna, rotisserie chicken, bacon, anything with a good strong odor. I dont know whats in those cat treats but they are definitely designed to get a cat excited. Yes, it can take a LONNGGGG time to.... I was going to say get back to normal, but it may be a new normal. If she doesnt completely recover its not unreasonable to still hope and expect she will make an adjustment. My Figgy still has a slight head tilt 6 yrs later but he has a good life. For the longest time he couldnt jump but lately hes been doing this little hop to get into bed... instead of having to grab and pull himself up....See Moredetermine recovery from crown rot?
Comments (7)Hello! If you're having chronic issues with rot spots, dead leaves, or crown rot, I think it's wise to investigate your environment. Is there adequate airflow? Violets like a breeze in the room; stuffiness invites fungus. Is the temperature OK? 60F to 75F is best for them. How is the soil--is it porous enough, and is the violet's crown planted above the surface? They need good airflow in the roots too, and their crown cannot get wet; if it's wet, it has to dry within an hour. Are they getting enough sunlight? Cold and damp conditions are just as risky as warm and dark ones; I've found around 68F and somewhat sunny to be best. I've found that good airflow is the key to them accepting sunlight. As for your current worries, crown rot spreads quickly. You'll notice some leaves wilting, and their stems will become brown and mushy at the base as the fungus moves upwards. The roots and main stem of the plant will become brown and mushy as it moves downwards. If you put the plant in a plastic bag, you'd know within a few days because of the raised humidity. The best course of action for crown rot is to take two or three healthy leaves by cutting high with a sterilized knife, plant them, and then toss the mother plant. If you catch it early enough, the second way is to take leaves separately then reroot what's left of the crown, but I wouldn't recommend this. It's hard to say what you had without photos, but if it were crown rot, they'd be dead. When in doubt, you can always root leaves, separate and root suckers, or restart the crown and start anew. I had to do this last year because I was over-potting for a while. Besides, starting leaves is fun. :) I didn't mean to write so much, haha. Best of luck!...See MoreTina Marie
