It's hard for me to say when I am so unfamiliar with your climate. California has a Mediterranean climate as Australia does, but as you know Mediterranean climates vary quite a bit. All three of your selections are wonderful roses when they are grown where they are happy. Where I live plumeria cannot be grown, so I know you must be dealing with conditions that are different from mine. If it were me, I would plunge right in and try them, but then, I don't mind removing roses that don't live up to my expectations after I have given them a few years. Some gardeners feel as though they are murdering plants they remove. Gardeners who feel that way have to be more prudent with their selections. What ever you decide, I hope it turns out to be lovely. There's a very large, old rose near my parent's home that I suspect may be Susan Louise. It has no fragrance, but blooms all year long. The plant has to be corralled with several chains fastened to a wall to prevent it from spilling onto the sidewalk. I don't have any great pictures, but if it is indeed Susan Louise then I'd only plant it if I had a massive space. Jay

Thank you all for your replies, there is truly some love for electric kettles here! I went yesterday to my nearby SLT and W-S to kick some tea kettle tires. While I did look at some electric kettles, I'm truly not a counter top appliance guy, and we really don't drink tea that often anyway, so I guess they are just not my cup of tea! (sorry, couldn't resist;) The Le Creuset, All Clad, and the current Chantal all seemed to pale in quality and substantial feel to my 30+ year old kettle, so I went away a bit discouraged. I then did some research on the Chantal, and it appears that prior to 2008 the "enamel on steel" kettle I have was made in Germany. Since then, they have been made in Taiwan, and are a slightly smaller dimension, and much lighter weight. Finding this out prompted me to take my old kettle and clean it up as much as I could. I was able to remove almost all the surface rust around the lid, and gave the inside a good vinegar cleansing. I noticed at the stores the Chantal had a rubber gasket around the lid that has been missing on mine for how long I can't remember, so I went to Chantal's website, and ordered a replacement gasket for $3! After it was all cleaned up, I fired it up and boiled some water for tea, and that trusty Hohner harmonica seemed to sing extra happy to be given a new life! I figure a little rust is just extra iron :) Who knows, maybe another 30 years? Thanks again for all your input... Chris

Moses, Kordes breeds roses in northern Germany which is probably quite similar to your USDA Zone so if they are choosing varieties I think it likely they are cold hardy for your region. I do not know if ADR gives cold hardiness protection but I think not likely. Earth Angle as mature plants here in Oregon are about 3.5-4 feet tall. It is vigorous and repeats very well. It does not ball in the summer here, but now with night temperatures in the low 40's and rain the blooms are balling. But none of the other blooms in the field look all that great either! I always think these deep cup flower forms have a potential to ball in the right circumstances. People seem to love this flower form in spite of this. For those looking for a red rose with a smaller habit than Leibeszauber should try Grande Amore - an ADR winner and a fabulous red rose. We see the height at 3.5-4 feet. I do not find Wedding Bells low growing but it has a very good habit with a bushy healthy form and good repeat on the flowers. On height I see it at 4-4.5 feet as a mature plant. On fragrance it has good fragrance - not at the level of Savannah but above average fragrance. Flowers are predominantly single and large - 4". Heavy petal ref;ex and a silver reverse on the medium pink bloom make it striking. With Pink Enchantment it is about the same height as Wedding Bells in our trial fields and again these are mature plants- 6 years old. On ultimate plant height there are so many variables. We trial in an area that has a long growing season and a very warm summer. Roses tend to be tall and what we experience here probably is what most gardens in the west should expect. I have also seen in trials in the south similar habit to what I see here. Kordes in Germany generally reports lower average heights with a cooler climate and a shorter growing season. Maybe the height they report is a better indication for the northeastern USA. Other factors are different root stocks on budded plants and own root roses can have a different habit than a budded plant.
