Small Bathroom: What size tiles should I use?
Comments (14)I like the idea of a smaller tile on the floor so that the grout line provides added traction. The 2x2 trim, may be something you'd like on the walls but it might not lend itself to spacious open spaces. To me it will break up the space and make it look smaller, but I may be wrong. Have you gone to houzz yet as Babka suggested? There are millions and millions of bathroom pictures. Well maybe only 330,927, I just looked :) But there are so many, you will be able to narrow your search and find something that fits with what you have in mind and compare. I will post several: [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Chanhassen Design-Build Firms Knight Construction Design : Chanhassen, Minnesota [Contemporary Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2103) by San Francisco Architects & Designers Mike Connell [Contemporary Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2103) by Portland Interior Designers & Decorators Angela Todd Designs [Midcentury Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/midcentury-modern-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2115) by Los Angeles Interior Designers & Decorators Susan Jay Design [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Saratoga Springs Architects & Designers Plum and Crimson Fine Interior Design [Traditional Bathroom[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-bathroom-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_712~s_2107) by Cherry Hill Tile, Stone & Countertops StoneMar Natural Stone Company LLC...See MoreWhich of these three bathroom layouts should I choose?
Comments (8)Thanks everyone for your responses! techiestar: Great idea on the towel rack, and thanks so much for the photo! Much appreciated catherini: Yes, to tub or not to tub is quite a dilemma. I think I'm going to stick with the tub. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll need to soak with Epsom salts. coolbeans: I agree, I won't do #2. debbiejoy: Totally agree about having natural light in the bathroom. I'm going to switch option #3 around so that the bath is on the other wall. That way, I can have as big a window as I want. (Yes, we are putting a new window in, so we can have whatever size we like.) sandiandjerry: Yikes! I didn't notice that!!! The last thing I need is the bathroom door opening to reveal the (ta da!) toilet. mongoct: Bingo! That is precisely what I'm going to do. - - - - Again, thanks so much. Problem solved! Yaaaaaaaaay for this forum!!! (I don't know how I ever lived without it!)...See Morebathroom tile plan - I'm back with more details (long)
Comments (11)It doesn't sound like she's very creative at ALL! Geeze, louis. Ok...so hmmm...First, mixing gloss with matte. I think it's like mixing finishes, some like it, some don't. To me, it sounds like youre not thrilled with the idea. If that's the case, follow your intuition and don't compromise. Just because your field tile is one brand doesn't mean your trim has to be the same brand too; especially when you're planning on using two different tones. I'd take a sample of the Savoy Café and Ivory (both) to few of the local tile stores and ask them to match the tile with an ivory chair rail in a matte finish. Surely someone in your area is going to have just the one you need. (Think positive!) I know you said you wanted to use the pinwheel, but to me that seems very traditional and even a bit busy. I love the floor in the picture on page 3 of the brochure and the colors are basically what you've described for your room. Have you considered doing something like that maybe? It looks amazing with the subway tile in the picture and I think it would be easier to pull off a modern look with the hexigon. You could then also carry the same pattern as a border on the tub surround. I would probably leave the walls in the main part of the room alone with just the subway and chair rail. ItÂs a small room and anything more may make it look too busy. But bringing the floor into the tub area will help tie the colors to the two spaces together and I think that would look amazing. Not too much or too traditional and a nice back drop for towels and accessories. I hope that makes sense and helps....See MoreI have no idea what I'm doing. Help me design my bathroom
Comments (33)Benjesbride, where does she lose the 2"? It appears that she is not aware of the loss. Rebeccamomof123, are you pulling permits to do the work, or do you live in an area where the city/town/county inspectors are going to become aware of the work and expect to come in and inspect it? Or is your area more like where I live and anything short of an addition is something that no one will notice and that inspectors don't drop in when workmen are around unless it is really obvious that a big job is being done? The reason I ask is that your clearance for the toilet-to-tub distance is right on the edge of being okay. Some towns will not let you get that close. If you could get inspected by the code enforcement officer, or if you are doing this with permits, you need to draw this up and get it approved before assuming it is going to be approved. If you need to steal back a couple of inches to make it fit, one option is a wall-hung toilet. Your contractor opens up the wall behind your toilet and puts the tank and flushing works inside the wall (not the stuff you have, it is custom made for this purpose) and then the toilet part actually hangs off the wall and never touches the floor. It is much nicer for cleaning. All of Europe has been doing it this way for years, I hear. http://www.geberitnorthamerica.com/en_us/target_groups/enduser/products_enduser/toilets_2/concealed_systems_1/for_toilets_1.html...See MoreLena D
