Hi, I’m in Palm Beach Gardens (Zone 10B) There are three varietals in this bed, the two taller ones are Mammoths. The one on the right is 10ft. This is my first try at Mammoths but, I’ll share what I did and what I think worked well. Planting Time: Direct sow in February, thin out slow growers to prevent crowding. Two seeds every 30”. Soil Prep: Dug a 2ft deep trench, 1ft wide. I have sand as well so I amended the soil with a compost/top soil mix from HD and granulated fertilizer for shrubs. Next go around I‘m going to add bone meal earlier, probably around thinning. Watering: Water in the morning daily until they get about 1ft tall, then I typically water every other day if there’s no rain. Important to make sure soil dries a bit between waterings and very important to give them a slow deep soak to encourage good root growth. These just survived a severe storm with 40mph+ gusts and hail. I think the care to the root system helped them. Feeding: Liquid fish fertilizer heavy nitrogen every 14 days. Added an inch of manure on the surface when they got about 2ft tall and dug out a 3” deep moat, 1ft radius around the stalks. This really helped to direct the fert and water to the roots. Added bone meal to the surface around the stocks in mid April, I’m going to do this earlier next time. Although it seemed to really help with producing new buds on the Autumn Sun varietal. I applied neem oil at night a couple times early on, soak the leaves on top and bottom as well as spray the soil surface. Also I had to apply copper fungicide early on to fight leaf rot. Got a little lazy and the Jerusalem Golds suffered. These get great morning light, slight shade in midday from a palm. The shed in the background blocks a significant portion of direct afternoon light and there’s a row of Autumn Suns on that side as well. I think they’d be taller with more light but, that’s a guess. I also, didn’t apply liquid fertilizer as regular as I could/should have. I think they could’ve benefited from a couple more feedings. Next go around, I’ll experiment with the feedings. OMG! Brazilian peppers are banned in FL if I'm not mistaken. If/when you remove those, be VERY careful to get all the seeds. Those are carried into the wetlands by birds and, well, there's a good reason they're banned. We need to ban them here, too. Mangos are simply a pain in the butt. Nobody can eat the fruit fast enough because they all ripen and fall off the tree on the same day. You go from a clean yard to literally tons of fruit on the ground overnight. Banyan trees look nice as a gigantic ornamental specimen in an even more gigantic open space. You don't have that. That's the wrong tree in the wrong place. So I guess I'm saying you need to get rid of all those trees. All of them are the wrong tree in the wrong place. The palms can stay - maybe. At 30 feet high it's not like you can enjoy the foliage. They are simply a big trunk you have to mow around. At least they are not a pest and won't interfere with grass. Okay so currently the only grass that even might survive is St Augustine, but I would focus on tree removal before spending another dime on the lawn. Any grass you install now would get torn up with tree removal. Plus if you get rid of all that shade your choices of turfgrass open up beyond just St Augustine.

Hi Sharon! I live in Florida moved to brooksville from Tampa and I'm also trying white Eden, eden & red Eden !!! Not on fortuniana either. My advice is Ammend Ammend Ammend!!! My roses are still babies so I can't tell u how they will do but I can give u some good roses to grow in your area!!! I planted my Edens against a chain link fence also. I do know the harsh heat of summer does mess with the blooms of white Eden but nothing drastic. I also know bc they're not grafted onto fortuniana you won't get the same vigor and the longer life span bc of our soil n nematodes. I know some who have roses over 40 + years old and HUGE bc they're on fortuniana!! Hybrid teas also, Way taller than me!! Where do u live in central fl?? I know two nurseries that sell roses grafted on fortuniana. I do know that cramousi souperier ? (Probably spelled wrong) isn't grafted but is an old China cl. Rose and does very very well here and gets monstrous!!! The roots aren't affected by nematodes much, so it'll last a long time!!! Also Don Juan- pink Don Juan ( Catherine nelson) the climbing KORDES rose Seminole wind aka rosarian ueterson ( that one does start slow and very stiff canes that will zig zag but once it gets going is always loaded with blooms unaffected by the heat too !) prosperity gets huge but blooms fade in heat to white, white dawn, new dawn & Zephrine Drouhin are monsters!! Madame Caroline testout is also and on own root. Golden showers- red climbing Blaze (improved one) piñata - mme Isaac Perrier- is doing well on own roots here and mme. Plantier is monstrous on its own roots here!! !! I have mine in afternoon shade bc it's a white bloomer. Also climbing Cecile brunner will get very very big but mines on fortuniana I heard it's still a monster on its own roots!! I try to purchase only roses on fortuniana but I also have a soft heart for the older fuller bloom shape! Especially David austins roses!! Mine are on Dr. Huey not nematode resistant what so ever but still very vigorous! Most of his roses grow as climbers here in our weather. I heard from others who grow them in fla that it's the second longest lasting rootstock besides fortuniana but u have to Ammend the soil like crazy! there's a lady on here that told me a web site where u can purchase David Austin roses on fortuniana !! I'll have to go back n look it up give me a day or two!! Also a man who said to put the roses planted in a big 25 gal plastic pot and cut the bottom out of it put good potting soil or top soil with loads of pine bark fines mixed in or pine needles ( nematodes hate them) and stick it into the ground to by pass the nematodes since they're only 6 inches down into soil anyways. I thought that was a pretty good idea!! Oh and here's a rose doing monstrous on its own roots!!! It's called Red Cascade (antique rose emporium) where most of my own root OGR's came from! Also, Heirloom Roses (I like heirloom better their roses are always in better shape!!) so the two nurseries are Hardins in Tampa and Nelsons roses I think Nelsons is in north or central fl and Hardins however does not deliver both only sell grafted onto fortuniana !! anyways I hope there's some kind of useful info in this message and good luck to you n your roses!!!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️

It snowed 20cm yesterday so it was the perfect day to sit on the couch downstairs and crochet while watching Netflix. I barely moved off it except to get more coffee. Over 225 car accidents and the major highway going north/south through the city was closed! That never happens. We had white out conditions for most of the day. The smart people (like me) stayed indoors. :) I'm crocheting a baby blanket for my daughter in laws sister. I have nine more rounds to go before I start the border. I did 9 rounds yesterday. It should be between 36" and 40" when done, depending on how I do the border. I was thinking six rounds of moss stitch, then a scalloped edge. We'll see when I get there.
