Maytag Bravos TL HE washer Clean cycle
Comments (12)Thanks. Dianne47, that is exactly what happens if I turn it off...the water drains away. It will only allow about 5 min from pause to cut off if you don't start it back up. So much for a soak. whirlpool, there is a light that comes on the control panel that indicates a cleaning is due. It can be reset by pressing cancel. The manual says if you cancel the cleaning cycle, you need to rinse out the detergent and softener dispensers by running a rinse and spin cycle with an empty machine. I am not sure what would happen if I ignore the clean warning too long. Probably smells would develop over time, so I just wonder if anyone has used only bleach as a cleaning agent in this cycle. Thank you so much for your response. Murphy...See MoreWashing Down Comforters/Pillows in a Maytag Bravos washer
Comments (12)* Also, doesnt the Bravos have a soak cycle on it? Yes, it does. You can choose how long you want it to last, according to soil level. And you can let it continue until it's through, or you can Pause the washer and let laundry soak longer. * I thought in the owners manual it said it does, but it will drain and stop after the soak cycle runs. Yes, it does, when the Soak cycle finishes. * I actually wash my work jeans and T shirts on sanitary cycle in my HE3T with soak cycle. The Bravos 850 also has a sanitary cycle. * How hot does the sanitary cycle her in yours, anyone know? I've never taken its temp, but it gets REALLY hot. I think the manual tells how hot it gets. * Its nice of you to remember me Mara, Im not on here much anymore, been working a pile of mandatory overtime all summer long :( but now I can pay cash for the new set when decide on what to get. Me too, gates -- working longer hours. Glad to know you're getting overtime! The increased pay sure does help. It is SO NICE to be able to pay cash for appliances and other big purchases. * One more question..what exactly is the "deep rinse"? DOes it fill more than the wash cycle or just not the spray rinse that is on the bravos. I rarely use the spray rinse, simply because I must use the deep rinse in order to use fabric softener or vinegar (or both). I'm assuming it does use more water than the spray rinse. My dd has used the spray rinse when she's washed her clothes (usually on the Quick Wash, when she's in a hurry for a particular outfit). Her clothes came out fine. I hope this helps! And I hope you get a break from so many hours soon -- after you've paid cash for the new set, of course. ;)...See MoreMaytag Bravos vs Maytag Epic
Comments (10)Sorry this is so long. I think both machines are great choices. My grandmother has the Bravos and loves it!! It is not very different in terms of the way it performs mechanically from a conventional TLer except it has a glass lid and no agitator, although I feel cleaning performance is better. It also rinses a bit differently thatn a conventional TLer in where it does this series of sprays and spins as opposed to a deep rinse (unless you select the extra rinse option),but my grandmother and I feel this rinsing method is way more effective than a conventional TLer. Cycle times are not much longer than a conventional TLer unless you select a whole bunch of options. So that's our experience with the Bravos...... BUT......based on some of the reviews here on this forum and elsewhere, these machines, which are a sibling to the Kenmore Oasis and Whirlpool Cabrio, seem to be a love it or hate it type of machine. I have heard others report about tangling and twisting of clothes in these machines, as well as electronic/control board problems, particularly with the Oasis model. So I figured I'd give you a heads up on that. However, I really believe that no matter what machine you buy, there will always be complaints on it. It's just a matter of what best suits your needs. Anyhoo, here's a little tidbit on the Bravos. When loading clothes into it, my grandmother or I (when I visit her) do not wrap them around the bottom edge of the basket as you would load clothes into a conventional TLer w/ an agitator, or just dump the entire load of clothes in all at once. These methods may contribute to tangling, twisting and wrinkling. We just simply drop our clothes in piece by piece around the center of the impeller and that seems to get good (and untangled, untwisted and unwrinkled) results. I learned that technique from Jcrowley who is a frequent poster on this forum and owns a Cabrio HE. I also would not recommend putting a fitted sheet in with a pair of jeans in this machine. My guess is that you may have a tangled mess after that load is complete, which is why the washer has a separate cycle for sheets and another one for jeans. Other HE TLer's you may want to look into are GE Harmony, which I have heard wonderful things about, and all Fisher and Paykel machines. As for the Epic, when washer shopping, grandma was also looking into this machine because of the rave reviews of the machine from others on this forum and elsewhere. I have no experience with this machine so I cannot comment on it's performance, but I do have a friend who recently bought an Epic pair and she LOVES them! As for prices, we got the Bravos at Home Depot for my grandmother at $854 and change plus extended warranty, tax and delivery fees. I have found that the Bravos tends to be priced the lowest vs. it's other two siblings. And I believe the Epic is coparable in price to Bravos. Chime in and correct me if I'm wrong, Epic owners. I hope this info helps and was clear to you! Good luck washer shopping!! :o) Kevin...See MoreTop Loading HE Washer Out of Balance Question
Comments (10)Whirlpool still uses the same dryer design today as they did when you bought yours, I would think there is still some sort of timer available that would work but I could be wrong. I believe there are also repair services that can fix timers, I've never tried one though. What's the point of replacing both if one machine is broken? None of the washers today are anywhere near as well made as your Maytag. If I were you, assuming the dryer is unrepairable (which I kind of doubt) I would replace it with the exact same thing: a brand new Whirlpool, 29 inch wide with the lint filter on top (NOT their 27" with lint filter in the door) and I would leave the washer be. Then, if the washer conked out I would replace it with a modern front loader (NOT a modern top loader). It's one thing if water conservation is very important to you or your community (in which case you should have replaced it with a front loader a long time ago) but it doesn't sound like that's the case here. The tone of your post suggests you like what you have and don't want to give it up, so why do it if you don't have to?...See Morekadefol
