I read that, but it seemed that they had only seen a small sample, not an entire slab. I just got a photo of the original slab I saw, and compared it to the photo I took of the second slab. I could then see that the second slab wax only half of a slab, cut lengthwise, which left off the bolder part of the pattern. So still not sure if there is actually a difference, as those two looked pretty identical o cê I only looked at half.

When Silestone tells a fabricator a jumbo slab is 63" x 128", that is the minimum useable yield he'll get; he might squeak out another inch or two even on a regular slab (55" x 120"). You probably weren't charged extra for a seamless jumbo, but what you've gotten is two remnants from different batches. He woulda made good money on this one, had he gotten away with it.

It is the colour difference between HEARTWOOD and SAP WOOD. If you have ever seen a tree that has just been felled (chopped down) you will notice that the CENTRE is a COMPLETELY different colour than the OUTER RINGS. What I'm seeing here is the dark HEART WOOD (strong brown colouring) and the PALE sap wood (outer rings/new growth). The action of slicing the veneer has caused this type of visual. Normally I see this type of veneer in plywood (this type of grain presentation). It isn't a desired form of wood floor veneer. Most people do not like this visual. Mainly because it reminds them of plywood and not hardwood. Go ahead and google "red oak heartwood". You should come up with THOUSANDS of photos showing STRONG colouring vs. light colouring. The colour variation is "fine" for me because this is the colour variation naturally seen between heartwood and sap wood. I agree that the rotary peeled veneer is the problem...not the species. If you don't like the look, you may have to cull (remove) all the planks that bother you, and then purchase more of the same (watch out for dye lots) so that you get the pale floor you were hoping for. It will be cheaper than sending everything back, paying the restocking fee and ordering a different floor with a better veneer (higher priced product).

This is significantly different. Stop now. Do not let them install the sink or plumbing. Once that happens, it’s much harder to get things moving your way. I have MSI stone in white and it’s fabulous. But I would not accept this. You will never be happy with this. Especially in a new home build. Even with sample laid flat, I’m sure you will see the difference between pink vs gray. take your sample to the stone supplier and fabricator for comparisons and have them rip it out and replace.
