Comments (5)Thanks for the great job of photographing all of those amazing gardens. We thought about coming up to the convention but then couldn't come. Glad to be able to see the gardens that would have been on the tour. Everyone spent so much time getting prepared, it's great that their hard work can be seen by all of us!...See MoreHosta Giants 2020
Comments (21)oursteelers, debra- thanks, my FS is in almost all sun, but gets a lot of water. I love its subtle coloring and thick leaves. I don’t have S&S, but have it’s other baby- Winter Snow- which does burn and get ratty with too much sun. FS seems to tolerate the sun better, but again- plenty of water....See MoreHosta Wide Screen Shots 2020
Comments (69)Old_dirt, take it easy and don't get too impatient. Your lovely garden will wait until you are ready to get out there! We only have a half-acre here, but it keeps me busy. This was last June-all back yard upper level (we have three levels and this is the one I worked on last year-behind garage, patio area. I need to fill in blank spots, but will wait until last year's plants show themselves. In pic below, our Sam and way too many unattended-to-yet weeds. I worked on it , but hadn't started yet. Looking back toward patio. Note to self: divide Carex this year! Anyone near us is welcome to some-should have divided long ago. Moving to right around patio w/Sam again. Below, I interplanted the hosta with Chelone, heucherella, heuchera, astilbe, ferns and Gentiana, and other typical companion plants. The old bench in the background is all that is left of a square redwood picnic table set from my childhood which makes it at least 69 years old! New front side yard (driveway to right) looking back toward upper back yard. Will be filling in this year. Nothing is popping up yet other than daffodils which started blooking this past week. Warm weather expected in the coming week (actually getting up to 70 degrees F.!), so I expect to see some of the spring perennials to start showing. The hosta pips won't show themselves for at least a while-end of April?...See MoreHosta Seedlings and Sports 2020
Comments (26)Excellent! Hosta Maker shows up with some very promising youngsters. What's worse, having something interesting that's already out there, or having something interesting that just doesn't grow? Do you still use it for breeding? Here's a pic of the Hosta Volunteer Nursery. I think a bunch are from Dancing Queen.A seedling from a streaker found at Cory's Wildflower GardensIt looks like I may need to split it already to save the streaky part. Or is it not worth the effort if it is stabilizing so quickly? Kaleidochrome seedling Valley's Top seedling planted in too much sun. Now where did I move that to? Flash Of Light tet x Lakeside Sir Logan planted in full sun (and also moved later, but not because it needed it....See Moresteve duggins(Z6a) - Central Ohio
