What type of stone is this?
Comments (4)could be quartzite or granite. quartzite is actually harder, but some may etch. if you want to know if it has any calcite deposits in it, try taking a piece of the slab, sharp end, and scratching a glass tile with it. if it etches the glass, it's not marble. marble will not scratch glass. you can also drop some lemon juice on it to see if it etches after a few minutes. These slabs are composed of different minerals and types of rock, so it's hard to say exactly what is what. from the looks of it I'd say granite w/a bit of quartzite deposits. But i'm not an expert geologist. a search of the name also turned up that is was granite from Brazil...or marble from brazil. doing those tests are the only way to know for sure. BRANCO CACHOEIRO Brazilian marble...See MoreCan anyone confirm what type if stone this is and if it is good for a
Comments (6)Depends on the rest of your kitchen. That is very dramatic, and needs to be the star. Your other decor choices in your kitchen need to e quiet. If your kitchen also has busy floors, or you are planning a patterned backsplash, that granite won’t work. It also won’t work if you have an older kitchen and you are just replacing the counters. That granite is for a new current kitchen. If you decide to go with this granite, you must go to the templating layout at the fabricator’s, to see how it will be laid out, and where the sink cutout is. Do not skip that step, no matter what....See MoreTecho Block Aberdeen or BlueStone - What type of wall?
Comments (6)While I have not previously installed Aberdeen it is one of Techo-Bloc's premium 'slab pavers' with face mix and what they call an in-line sealer. Their premium products are designated as HD2 (high density) in the 2020 catalog. HD is referencing more cement in the mix. https://www.techo-bloc.com/collection/catalogs/catalog-usa/ Their catalog also shows all the wall options, some of which are more complementary to Aberdeen than others. If you are working with a local landscape supply outlet they may provide you with small, freebie samples. If a contractor is doing the work then he or she can certainly get you a reasonable amount of free samples. As mentioned by Yardvaark, view the sample(s) in context with your home to see if it feels good and looks right. Bluestone is a more timeless, classical product and thermal bluestone is always in the best of taste. Bluestone works with a wide range of home styles from contemporary to neo-colonial and beyond. You might want to have both thermal and natural cleft to view at your home. Limestone walls and counters are a very traditional approach and a frequent companion to bluestone patios. With either option the patterning of the stone will also make a distinct difference in how it presents itself. The patterning options for Aberdeen are in the Techo catalog. The patterning options for bluestone are myriad. While I have wet-set a number of bluestone patios over the years I have yet to wet-set a modular patio. You might want to confirm with the supplier/contractor that wet-setting the Aberdeen is a satisfactory process. The photos below show an assortment of bluestone applications and may be helpful with your thought process. Good luck and post some photos when you finish. Comments (1)White gravel is most often marble which is a metamorphic form of limestone. Marble can raise the pH of soil over time. This is only a problem for calcifuge plants that require an acidic soil....See MoreRelated Professionals
