Comments (16)Thank you -- I guess I am kind of rambling here and not getting to the point. Pal I do love the idea of wood verticals, but they are just too pricey . If i was planning to be here another 20 years I would consider but I think we will be moving within the next 5 years. With that, I want to update with resale in mind (and not spend too much $$(. I have 2 points; the first starts with the sliding patio door window treatment. While we rarely do close the blinds, (more for sun than for privacy)I still need that option. I could probably just get new slats to put in the track for the vertical (cause a few have sort of split and fallen off..)but I keep thinking that they just look so less than good in general. That started me thinking that I should consider perhaps some panels on a rod? Then I wonder because the blinds are 80 or 81 inches long (that little recess of course is not at 84"). Then I wonder if I should add same similar panels to the family room. Secondly- I think about how the couches are 10 years old or older, and are uncomfortable to sit on need replacing....I have looked somewhat but there are so few furniture stores any more and I barely see any blue shown though I love the blue...... . I do love the way the blue plays off all the beige(walls, carpet, cabinets etc). all I see when I look is beige/brown (which might work?) or reds and greesn which I dont think I want. Well I think you maybe helped me out here.I am thinking maybe I should just replace the slats in the vertical blinds... and then ask for help on my wall arrangements? But just to show how my brain works, after I semi came to the realization that I might just replace the verticals (because they ARE functional and they do work- I just have never loved them)... do you think a beige/tan couch could work well in here? and or do you think these would work if I kept the blue? (LINDEN PAISLEY in lake mist?) or if I did add panels would you go with a white like the blinds? Or just leave it alone and just replace /renew the vertical blinds? Here is a link that might be useful: lake mist linden?...See MoreFlip flopper- should I or should I not paint w/ new color? Can't decide
Comments (49)Yknow, IMHO, I wish we all could drop the "D" word from our vocabulary. If we love it , if its well made, if its functional - then a place can be found for it, period. In other words - your china cab is just fine, and it does look good on the side rather than viewed head on. That said of course we like our rooms freshened up now and then - but I think you can jazz it up in other ways incl choosing a new color ILOVE greens/browns/tans, but the pea soup color Im kind of tired of. (or so it looks on my monitor anyway, which has been known to be wrong.) Definitely think about going deeper richer. Dont know if Penny's or Anglo's deep dark colors are good for you but it gives you an idea at least of what deeper/richer could do for you. If all else fails maybe you could just take the living room color and just go a few steps darker/more intense with it. Let the DR be cozy and intimate complete w/ a big china cabinet - why not? The DR should relate well to the LR, and that would be one way of doing it. Minor quibble - I would think about that wall space where the china cab was - is there a third pic that could fit in there? With cabinet moved, that wall becomes very significant. Not liking just the two pics , needs to be 3 I think..... Or some other wall decor or arrangement .... minor thing, so perhaps just wait for the inspiration or right thing to come along....See MoreI can't picture it, white ceiling and trim where the wood is??
Comments (40)If you are speaking of wall color, that would depend on your decor. As for white trim paint, I went with basic bright white for all of my trim, but know there are many different options. In one home, the painter offered to match our new white Charleston blinds. I thought that a great idea. At the time, I did not realize that there is white, and then there is white. LOL Luckily, we caught the painter after he had painted only the Master bedroom and downstairs family room trim. It had a grayish tone. :( Made the wall paint look so drab. YIKES... I thought the blinds were white, white! We had it all redone. The painter was so sweet and only charged us for the original and new paint. No extra labor....See MoreI can teach, but I can't decorate. Comments (1)1. What color and type/brand of flooring would you recommend? Looking for a "wood look" flooring that will stand up to big dogs, dripping kids and is budget friendly and scratch resistant. No wood flooring will every hold up to big dogs. You'd be better off going with a wood look tile. They're not the cheapest, but they hold up well and won't need replacing after a few wet dogs run thru your new cabin. 2. What type and color of counter tops? Should the island and counter tops be the same or different colors? I love the look of quart, but would be interested in more affordable options that would hold up well. Since you say you're going for cozy, I'd suggest using the same color for a more harmonious space. Changing the color works well in larger spaces in my opinion. 3. The rectangular game table will be placed near the entry door. Looking for furniture placement ideas and decorating ideas. Not sure about this one, sorry. 4. What should I do on the wall with the fireplace. My husband is hanging a television at the top...ugh! Between the windows? The backlighting is going to be a pain to look at while watching dark shows. Please also be careful about curtains at those windows so close to the fireplace. 5. What color appliances? If budget allows, you can get "panel-ready" appliances and you can put in wood paneling. That could be great for a cozy cabin look. If budget is an issue, then I'd go with stainless steel, should match well with a rustic cabin feel....See MoreRelated Professionals
