Need help identifying this mystery rose
Comments (22)I don't blame you for having those thoughts, Rosefolly. I've grown Snowbird for thirty years, not simply because I like it and it's a wonderful, old-fashioned looking rose here, but R. Marion Hatton, who created it, was excellent in his duties for the ARS for many years and was highly respected and loved by those who knew him. Enjoying Snowbird in my garden is my way of honoring him for the kind of man he was and providing him my small measure of immortality. I grew Dainty Bess for years, both because I liked the rose, but also because it was Archer's tribute to the woman he loved and eventually married. I grow Leonie Lamesch because I find her beautiful. Now, after this adventure, she is even more important to me. Peter Lambert, who created both Leonie and Eugenie, was the force behind the creation of Sangerhausen and accomplished many rose-related good works. The year after he introduced Leonie and Eugenie, he married Leonie Lamesch, so that rose has taken on greater value in my mind. I maintain several Jack Harkness roses for many of the same reasons. I respected him for his creativity, writing and for the well loved gentleman all who knew him proclaimed him to be. The same for Edward LeGrice. There are many others, including Ralph Moore, for whom I grow roses for the same reasons. So, yes, the "romantic streak" is strongly at work here, too. Comments (4)I agree that it looks like Bonica. If you google Help Me Find / Roses, you will get to a site where you can search under the name Bonica, and see dozens of pictures so that you can compare them to your rose. To answer your other questions, roses come in all shapes and sizes, as well as colors. This is a rose with clusters of small flowers. The flowers will not get bigger - they are supposed to be small. If you let us know where you are (what part of what state), there might be a rose nursery or public garden near you where you could go in the Spring, and see roses of many different styles, sizes, shapes and colors, if you are interested. Comments (0)HELP!!! Do you know the name of this rose? A neighbor grows it but has no idea what it is. It is full of blooms and buds since beginning of March in Coastal Southern, California. It was newly planted last year. She pruned it down in winter, but it’s now about 4+ feet tall. The plant grows in a full vase shape, and has lots of buds and blooms. What’s so striking about this rose is now early it blooms. looks like a hybrid Tea or Grandiflora in form... (has the V-Vase shap form... but is pretty full with leaves and blooms. It has lots of stems that bloom in clusters of 3 like a Floribunda. There’s not much fragrance... very light barely noticeable. It seems to be a very vigorous grower, prolific bloomer and super healthy plant. Seems to be the kind of roses that that thrives on little care. My neighbor says she doesn’t fertilize or really do anything to it. She’s new to growing roses and is amazed it’s doing so well, as she does nothing specially to it other than give it water. Here are some pics of the blooms, leaves and whole plant....See MoreHelp Me Identify Mystery Rose
Comments (13)Thank you Jo, Ben and Vaporvac! The best guess I got when posting this in a Rose Facebook Group was Wedding Bells. I think you guys nailed it. Jo, The pictures of your rose is beautiful! I actually like the coloring on your Gene Boerner Rose is even slightly more deep and saturated than my friend’s Rose. I’m not typically into roses that have blooms that curl back and create sharp, pointy angles. I prefer blooms with a softer more rounded shape. But the fact that this rose seems to be a blooming machine in early March and has done so well on such little care caught my attention....See MoreAnn-SoCalZ10b SunStZ22
