Very sorry to hear about your experience aa1notary. I have no experience whatsoever with that product nor any bias one way or the other, but most often times water infiltration is due to installation issues as opposed to the product itself. The video has expired, but it sounds like perhaps you have horizontal sliders? Something as simple as caulked over or clogged weep holes could cause water to accumulate in the sill... Again, sorry to hear about your experience. I'd recommend having the installation company out to inspect, and possibly in conjunction with that manufacturer rep so that they cannot each blame each other when the other is not present.

@meganhowlett did you ever get your Jeldwen door issue solved? I am having same issue, with same jeldwen door (mine has blinds inside glass), and wish I would have seen this thread before having this door installed and trusting my contractor (who has since quit without giving me the paperwork for the door, all because I questioned the door, the installation, and the amount I paid the contractor for the door).

I'd agree. The initial statement was perhaps a tad strong and generalized, but the top performing vinyl doors on the market will typically have better u factor, air leakage, etc. Sunrise restorations, Okna Elegante, Softlite Kingsroyal, Provia, etc. are all very nice doors. There are great wood doors too, and they have a "richness" in look and feel that is hard (or impossible) to match in a vinyl door---its just a trade off for performance in most cases. @pmbalint, you made a great choice in that Restorations door, it will serve you well.

If you look at the section detail you will see that the all-ultrex is cobbled together and can't have any realistic looking mullions. Its intended to compete with PVC windows and I guess it does that. Andersen PPG Flexicron epoxy paint is not as durable as a composite or aluminum cladding. It took me a lot of effort to cut into it with my fingernail but that would have done nothing to any kind of cladding. Your need for durability depends on the local climate and environment. Andersen Fibrex has been manufactured by Andersen for 25 years. That's longer than many PVC window companies have been in business. It has a low thermal expansion coefficient; a low thermal conductivity ratio; a high moisture resistance and a high flexural and tensile modulus. That makes it superior to extruded PVC.
