I'm down to black on black Anderson100 or Marvin Integrity all Ultrex with black exterior and white interior, painted black. But I want to see a painted Ultrex product. It's hard for me to believe I won't be able to take a fingernail across it and scrape it off?. I'm probably borrowing trouble even considering this. I'm not sure if I was quoted incorrectly, but I my Marvin Integrity quote is actually less than the A100 quote (from different seller), which is why I'm considering the paint option. Why are windows so difficult? (And so many more decisions to make)

Split finish pricing will vary depending on the product, it will generally be lower on vinyl if either side is white. Regarding what is seen, yes, you will always see the opposite side to some degree. The extreme contrast between black and white jusyt makes it more noticeable. Most folks are okay with it when the window is closed, its when its opened and you see the transition from one color to the other that is questioned more frequently. As Todd said, casements look nicer than double hungs as they don't having the balance channels, etc. and they have a more logical "termination" point for the color.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The house currently has bronze which looks like black until you hold black up next to it. We really need to replace them all which means a pretty big investment and we will be selling in about 7 years. Here’s a few pictures of the interior. A few things left to finish and decorating not completely done. Some of the rooms have plantation shutters making in hard to see the frames are actually bronze.

Put the screen on the window. The jamb is far less noticeable. You only see that on the lower sash, the upper is covered. This is not abnormal. I don't know if that particular line has an option for the outside half of the jamb to be painted black, but many that use a jamb liner don't. The jambs match the interior color (most times), and the exterior color is on all exterior surfaces. In some cases the jamb liner is a third color entirely, I can't imagine how furious your husband would be then?! Even IF a black jamb is available, you'd still see that from the inside on the upper half instead of the lower. You are going to see a color other than the face that you are looking at one way or the other when you have a two toned window. There is no way around that.
