Black exterior/white interior windows for remodel

Hello, we have recently kicked off our addition/whole house remodel project and have yet to choose windows. It seems like every window dealer we talk to bashes the competitors and throws doubt into the mix...is there not one good window option out there? I need help! The house aesthetic is "modern farmhouse" and looking to install black exterior with white interior windows.

Some sellers have told us that black exterior fiberglass does not hold up over time: does anyone have personal experience with this? We were even told black vinyl does better??

I had been thinking fiberglass, but with this info, I am now considering an aluminum clad wood window (although I have reservation about putting wood in the bathrooms).

As for aluminum clad, I have quotes for Jeld-Wen Siteline and Sierra Pacific Hurd H3 that are similar in price. I have read reviews on this forum (many questioning the quality of both of these brands), but would love to get updated opinions comparing these two. The main difference that I can tell is that H3 has a vinyl core.

Would absolutely love advice. It seems all the sellers have opinions, but they all support they sale of their own products, so it's hard to decipher what is important/not so important.

Hi amckeon, it's really not good for one supplier to bash other supplier, at least honest supplier won't do this.I suggest Aluminum thermal break black exterior with white interior windows, aluminum has many options on colors, and the cost is cheaper compared to aluminum clad, its thermal break strip can provide heat insulation function. if you want the wood color interior to match your decoration, then you can consider the aluminum wood grain color to lower the budget.

Oh at the end of the day there is little to question, they are not a well regarded window.

I'm going with black on black now. @millworkman, is there a window you would recommend? aluminum clad vs fiberglass? Thank you!

We were also wanting windows with black interiors and exteriors. For us the local availability brought it down to a choice between Pella or Milgard fiberglass windows. The Pella offerings were somewhat pricier, and we could never quite understand the why of it. We wound up selecting Milgard Ultra, and we're happy with the end results. And Milgard's warranty was fantastic, as our landscaper accidentally hit one window with a stone and chipped it, but Milgard replaced the insert without so much as a blink. One factor is whether a particular manufacturer's black is acceptable to you. Milgard's is called Black Bean, which is a bit lighter than true black, and I fussed over this for quite a while. Pella's may have been very slightly blacker, but also not true black. Now that we can see the final product in place, it looks fine. Good luck on your project. Brian

Does anyone know a window company/manufacturer in the Atlanta area they would recommend for black interior/black exterior windows? I do not want wood--do not want the upkeep. We did a house remodel that just finished and replaced some of the windows. I dislike the wood interior which we had to paint and it's only been a few months and it is already chipping and is extremely sensitive to any "use". I want a window that I can install and not worry about again...for a while. But it has to be black/black. I'm open for any suggestions and not married to any brand. Thank you.

We actually are doing this exact combination on our home right now. Our siding is dark grey and so we went with white windows because they popped next to the dark siding. Inside I fell in love with all the interior black window pictures and opted to black inside. We got our windows from Andersen and they were able to do that combo for us.

Kolbe Forgent black exterior windows have several white interior options: 1) white Glastra, 2) white factory painted wood, and 3) primed wood. They are also available in several wood species in case you want to stain them. Their wood interiors are an over-layment that attaches to the fiberglass interior, so the wood is not exposed to the elements outside. I just installed black exterior/white wood interior windows 6 months ago and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them and would make the same purchase again. The Glastra window frames themselves only come in two colors: white and tan (Sahara). Then, if you want black or bronze, they paint a very nice and durable coating over the white or tan Glastra/fiberglass window frames. On the outside, the entire frame is coated. On the inside, there is a portion of the frame that is uncoated, so you will see a difference between the bronze/black and the white or tan frame. (I am speaking only about casement windows and can't speak to what they do on other window types.) See photos below.

Aluminum Clad will be a wood interior. You are OK with painting the interior? If so Marvin Ultimates or Kolbe Sterling would be my top choices.

lpecq2, where do you get the idea I am a supplier. Yes I have been in the industry 30 plus years. The last 10 of which have been in the commercial end of the business. I have no dog in any hunt as far as residential windows and only speak to products I am familiar with. Do I have opinions yes, bit I also try to answer honestly.

Thank you @millworkman and @Ipecq2...I was seeking opinions and really appreciate your responses. Marvin Ultimates and Kolbe Sterling are out of my price range (I think...haven't priced them out, but by all accounts I believe that is the case). I'm weighing the aluminum clad wood vs fiberglass, but leaning fiberglass as I prefer a more modern look/easy to maintain. I think Anderson 100 may be the best black on black option?? Thanks again for responding!

@jn3344...your post is so helpful! Thank you!! And I love your home. Gorgeous!!! I'm down to black on black Anderson100 or Marvin Integrity all Ultrex with black exterior and white interior, painted black. But I want to see a painted Ultrex product. It's hard for me to believe I won't be able to take a fingernail across it and scrape it off?. I'm probably borrowing trouble even considering this. I'm not sure if I was quoted incorrectly, but I my Marvin Integrity quote is actually less than the A100 quote (from different seller), which is why I'm considering the paint option. Why are windows so difficult? (And so many more decisions to make)
