2 fencing types around yard
Comments (6)First picture, privacy fence parallel to the driveway Last picture, privacy fence coming off the end of the deck next to the window parallel to the road, to screen out that road. Something else along the back and sides. The fence will go behind the spruces in the first 3 pictures, behind the shed, behind the giant maple to the right of the shed, in front of that tree stump and mulch, and behind that big silver maple in the second to last picture. Please excuse the yard, its a work in progress. Ive spent a lot of time and money the last couple years removing hazardous and rotten trees, cleaning up storm-felled trees and managing invasive brush, as well as projects in and around the house itself....See MoreCan’t figure out new shed location and landscaping around it
Comments (6)Hi there! Yes, the top of the retaining wall you see in the back and sides marks the back and sides of our property. Left and right wooden fences are ours and will go all the way back to end of the property (they had to partially remove it to repair the retaining wall). So essentially the orange netting will get replaced with fencing, existing wooden on the sides, and aluminum all the way across the back. I don’t think I want the shed to be super visible, but did want to landscape around it to make it blend in a bit. They are going to build a pad to put it on so I have some flexibility with the pad size and shape....See Moregreen house to be built around the House, back yard and front yard
Comments (13)I read the same things. The greenhouse engulfs the house, but yet the human living is part of the greenhouse that also includes the pool, wood burning, and combustion engines. And the sun is blocked by the roof solar panels, which is fine for vertical farming using electric light but "greenhouse" infers natural light. If you live in Nova Scotia even trickier. Also a generic 20' house deck length (to access the upper part) of a two-story vertical farm could yield enough of a crop to supply a small town. And you are talking a greenhouse to cover about an acre footprint. Not even mentioning the water, labor, and energy requirements. Your goals surely come from a good place, and many on this forum probably share similar goals in various degrees of reasons and purpose. It might be better to start at solar with passive design attributes - it's difficult just to accomplish that. And work on your program requirements for farming - maybe just a grow shed is sufficient....See MoreFront Yard Help - To Fence or Not to Fence?
Comments (36)UPDATE: I wanted to thank everyone for their helpful suggestions. Our front yard renovation is almost complete. All we have left to do is pick out some colorful pillows for the chairs and wait for the plants to grow larger over time. We’re really happy with it. This is about the most sun the yard gets so finding native California plants that were shade tolerant and drought tolerant was a challenge. Here’s our plant list: Allumroot in 2 variations; Seaside Daisy; Narrow Leaf Milkweed; Blue Eyed Grass; and, Western Sword Fern The pots and window boxes aren’t natives but contain combos of impaitients, lace ferns, a different variation of allumroot, and daffodils. It’s much more enjoyable to sit outside and watch the kids play now....See Morelizziesma
