Fencing an Elevated Front Yard
Comments (8)Elizabeth -- would fencing in a small entry courtyard work well enough for 1, 2, and 3? Then plant low bushy things on the slope that won't invite sitting. The link below should take you to a photo showing an elaborate example of what could be planted on the slope. Link was incorrect. I'll search around.... try this one: <div><a href='[https://www.houzz.com/photos/newton-ma-front-yard-renovation-contemporary-landscape-boston-phvw-vp~5394748[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/newton-ma-front-yard-renovation-contemporary-landscape-boston-phvw-vp~5394748)' target='_blank'><img src='http://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/1d01857e021774c8_8-1373/contemporary-landscape.jpg' alt='Newton, MA front yard renovation' border=0 width='500' height='356' nopin='nopin' /></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style="text-decoration:none;color:#444;" href="http://www.houzz.com/pro/salliejhill/sallie-hill-design-llc" target="_blank">Photo by Sallie Hill Design, LLC</a> - <a style="text-decoration:none;color:#444;" href="[https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-landscaping-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_728~s_2103[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/contemporary-landscaping-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_728~s_2103)" target="_blank">More contemporary landscape ideas</a></small></div> A simple fenced entry garden: <div><a href='[https://www.houzz.com/photos/onshore-traditional-landscape-phvw-vp~2318014[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/onshore-traditional-landscape-phvw-vp~2318014)' target='_blank'><img src='http://st.hzcdn.com/simgs/6541146500de0e6e_8-1742/traditional-landscape.jpg' alt='Onshore' border=0 width='500' height='662' nopin='nopin' /></a></div><div style='color:#444;'><small><a style="text-decoration:none;color:#444;" href="http://www.houzz.com/pro/commongroundlandscapes/common-ground-landscapes" target="_blank">Photo by Common Ground Landscapes</a> - <a style="text-decoration:none;color:#444;" href="[https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-landscaping-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_728~s_2107[(https://www.houzz.com/photos/traditional-landscaping-ideas-phbr1-bp~t_728~s_2107)" target="_blank">Look for traditional landscape pictures</a></small></div> Sorry about the weird links......See MoreHelp with front yard fence
Comments (0)All the yard fences I see around my neighborhood are houses that have a garage facing the street. My garage faces sideways. I'm looking for ideas or common practice on this type of yard. Is the only way to run fence across driveway and put in a sliding driveway gate?...See MoreFront yard fencing
Comments (20)Remove the fence entirely and use the existing roses as the foundation of a natural hedge divider between your property and the street. Nothing weird about them and you can fill in (behind?) with other shrubs to add more seasonal interest. Have to wonder at the suggestion of chain link........here, when needed for security for pets, etc., hogwire fencing is used in place of chain link. A far better look aesthetically. But if you do not need the fence to contain pets or for privacy, then get rid of it altogether....See MoreFront yard fence and driveway gate
Comments (14)Doesn't have anything to do with being an interior designer. It has to do with being a grown-up. You've heard the phrase: "Once burned, twice shy"? Anyone in business who pays for business insurance makes sure they follow permitting procedures and codes so they advise their clients correctly and don't get sued. Cities ask for nominal permits for fences often for less than $50 to insure a few things: That you produce a survey that correctly shows where your property begins and ends. That your fence doesn't exceed any height restrictions. That you understand that your property is often subject to easements noted by the city or utilities that your new fence cannot encroach upon. That you call utility locators in advance of digging holes so you don't cut power or cable to your neighbors That you place the right side of your fence to the neighbors or outside your yard I've seen plenty of 6 ft fences go up next to busy streets that had to later be moved because the city had an easement for future sidewalks and parkways & then had to be reduced in height to 4 ft. because of visibility issues.....See Morensmiths81
