Looking for strong flavored, Tart ? Tomato types.
Comments (31)It does sound like your garden has gotten depleted of organic matter. I have very coarse sandy soil, and can't produce anything on fertilizer alone. Once I amend it with lots of organic matter, I don't need to use fertilizers of any kind and get very productive healthy plants. Because organics break down very fast in my soil, I have to amend my soil yearly to keep it productive. I mostly add two-three inches of chipped mulch each year, which breaks down by the next spring and is usually adequate. What you are describing sounds like the same problem the commercial food industry has been running into. Depleted soil becoming less productive and requiring more fertilizer. I suggest what others mention above. Add lots of compost and/or manure, and grow less, but healthier plants....See MoreWhy are my cherry tomatoes so tart?
Comments (6)Sorry, you are disappointed with your cherries. The Earthbox is a great product so it may be just your variety choices as mentioned. I also find with some tomatoes the flavors improve as the days pass. While yellow pear may have some admirers there are many who find the taste bland and the texture yukky--I am in the latter camp. Can't imagine it being tart though--maybe it is just the first few off the vine. Hopefully you will like them better given a little bit more time. A great SWEET red cherry available most everywhere is Sweet Million or Sweet 100--taste like candy (Psss, don't tell anyone but I like them better than SunGold). Hopefully you got that one and will like them more and more as they ripen. Not sure which other type of cherry you may have purchased?? I have read that tomato plants need full sun to develop maximum sweetness--hope you have those conditions....See MoreUsing mini tart pans
Comments (9)Thanks!! I must say that it was easy. I followed the recipe except I used half whole wheat and half white, I used sucanat rather than regular sugar, I added a touch of lemon extract and on the second set of four tarts I put lemon curd on the bottom then put the filling on top of that. I'll spare you all the second photo because it is so similar to the first...although there are more kiwi bits on the second batch. I loved the responses; made me feel even more successful about trying something new! The house smells so good right now :) Oh, and the pans were so easy. I used the bottoms to cut out the parchment paper and they popped out without even needing to push up from the bottom. So much fun!...See MoreT&T chocolate cookie crumb crust for mini tarts
Comments (0)We have an unopened box of Trader Joe's Peppermint Joe-Joe's left from Christmas. (Yeh, I know... who in their right mind can leave the box unopened this long?!?!) I'd like to make some mini tarts to fill with chocolate mousse or pudding. There are recipes galore on the internet. I'm looking for one to press into mini-muffin cups (not papers), bake, and release from the pan before filling. Does anyone have a T&T recipe and technique to be sure they will release and I won't end up with crumbs?...See Morecindy-6b/7a VA
