Brutal weather
Comments (15)I echo what Mori said! I too live in Kansas, Kansas City, to be exact! And I am praying every day for this brutal hot blazing sun TO STAY! Whenever we get this hot blazing sun I don't have any blackspot in my organic, no-spray garden. And it took just 5 days of this hot blazing sun to turn the tides once again in restoring health to my garden. Brutal and scorching sun is a blessing for me! First 2 months of unending rains, roses were pristine, healthy, very beautiful blooms. With the third month of unending rains canker started to infect my rose canes and a very vicious new mutant strain of BS appeared in my garden. Starts out as pin-pricks of tiny brown/purple dots, that appear all over the plant suddenly and you can't pluck because the spots are everywhere! Within 3-5 days the spots mushroom into what this online page shows: The only safe thing about this vicious strain is that it never attacks young roses or young leaves on my older roses until they reach a certain size and maturity--otherwise someone would seriously have to cart me off to the insane asylum. I still have 12 pristine and healthy young roses because most are in giant pots or in potted containers on the porch, away from the flooding, soggy ground--but they are now plenty large enough and can be easily attacked if those unending rains were to come back. For me what was truly brutal were the unending rains. The blessing is when the heat soars. The mutant BS is starting to die with the heat and the sun! You can actually see areas where the beginning infections are getting killed off. It's AMAZING how fast scorching sunshine can heal!...See More97ºF in the shade
Comments (10)It managed to get to 107ºF in Missoula beating the "all time record high" of 105 set on July 10, 1973. It's interesting that these two records came so early in July. The highest average temperatures are in the last few days of the month. I used to think that the 1st week of August was always the hottest of the year but that may be because I get so beaten down by those dates. Yeah, 1/4th inch of rain would be so wonderful. It is cooler today but temps are supposed to go up to double digits again by Wednesday. A side note on gardening: I checked our soil temperature in the warmest part of my gardens on June 30th - just thinking how some authorities say that 70º is required before planting melon seeds. It was 68º - 4 inches below the surface. I'm not even sure if it has made it to 70º yet even with all the record busting. Oh well, gives some relief for this old fox who plans to stay as close to the ground today as possible (& in the shade ;o). digitS'...See MoreCheck Engine Light 97 Avalon
Comments (3)I hope Toyota's quailty is not declining. A check engine light at 81k is something I would expect from other makes. They'll have to hook it up to see what the problems are. Since it's out of warranty, you might want to take the car to a Japanese car specialist once you know the diagnosis. Typically they only work on toyos and hondas and cost less than the dealer....See MoreFL on the right -Duet 97hex vs. LG WM3875 HVCA vs. Miele 4842
Comments (26)@ livebetter If your laundry area is so specifically designed to accommodate a dryer vent for a specific brand/model, then you have bigger problems if that machine breaks down. You will never be able to replace it with anything but the same brand/model since your design is so specific to that model. I'm talking about the positioning of your rear ducting to allow both machines to be pushed all the way back so as to be flush with your counter. Most likely any other machine, even if vented to the rear with the proper door swing, will not fit due to the specific ducting location of the previous machine. I live in Arizona where most homes are tract homes. Out here, swapping locations is simply not a concern because the vast majority of laundry rooms don't have custom cabinetry or counters built above or around their machines. My last set was an Asko and I was tempted to install a counter above them in the laundry room. If I had done this, well the design would have to be ripped out and re-worked for the larger Miele machines. Whatever you design for your machines, remember that you won't always have those particular models. Keep some flexibility in the design....See Morelucillle
