Comments (3)Per the link below, I think it is fine. From the link Asexual Reproduction Asexual reproduction is the propagation of a plant to multiply the plant without the use of genetic seeds to assure an exact genetic copy of the plant being reproduced. Any known method of asexual reproduction which renders a true genetic copy of the plant may be employed. Acceptable modes of asexual reproduction would include but may not be limited to: Rooting Cuttings Grafting and Budding Apomictic Seeds Bulbs Division Slips Layering Rhizomes Runners Corms Tissue Culture Nucellar Embryos Also...though it may appear to come true, it might be a tad different, to the point of not being noticeable. My, that is a pretty barberry. chemocurl...aka Sue oh...and yes Orange Rocket appears to be patented. Comments (2)Outlets here present a range of different purple (and yellow) ones every year. Despite Berberis thunbergii being a weed in the East nurseries there continue to select and introduce new forms. Your best bet is to see what outlets have there and make a selection - you can tell the hummocks from the normal ones by how they look in the nursery, see what shade of purple they are even in nursery sizes - or if ordering from elsewhere catalogs/web sites usually indicate what the habit is like, describe the color - although going by photos or statements for the leaf color is not as good as viewing the plants in person....See MoreGolden Barberries - leaf scorch
Comments (3)I've had Bonanza Gold in my yard since 2001 - planted it in the spring as a one gallon starter plant and today it's about 12 inches high and 26 wide. It's in full sun and gets sorta dry some summers. Haven't had one bit of scorching, color is always great, no early leaf drop, and I seldom trim the plant to maintain it's shape. Only issue I have is rabbits like to gnaw on it during the winter so I surround it with a chicken wire cage...See MoreShrubs Around Deck: W&R Weigela or Barberry?
Comments (2)There are smaller weigelas than wine and roses. I need to trim our wine and roses back. We have some variegated weigela (can't remember the name) that are taller than the max listed in just a couple of years and we need to keep cutting them back. I also have some My Monet. A few get more shade and aren't doing as well but the ones that get a lot of sun look fantastic. I am replacing barberries with weigelas in many places due to the thorns. Our dog likes to get near these and we are afraid he will get scratched. Other than that we only deal with the thorns when pruning. I am in zone 5 and all my weigelas are doing great....See Morerouge21_gw (CDN Z5b/6a)
