Dutch Oven question - I'm confused
Comments (3)Your pic looks like a nice pot. Do you have any trouble fitting it into the oven with that handle? Also, I find my 5.5 qt. LC usually not big enough. There are times even my 7-1/4 qt. LC isn't big enough (meatballs and sauce in particular; the meatballs are always just barely fitting, and coming up to the brim of the pot). The 4 qt. pot you pictured would be good for risotto as it's named, or heating sauces, or re-heating leftover stews, soups, etc. If you are making a classic soup using bones, meat and vegetables, the 4 qt. is just too small. For my cooking tasks that I use a Dutch Oven, the 4-qt would be too small for all of them. If you want to save money on LC, try finding an LC outlet close to you (see list below) where you can get 20-30% off. Or buy either the Lodge or the Tramontina 6 qt. enameled cast iron dutch oven at Walmart. Many enthusiastic fans of those pots, and reports are that they're as good as LC. Comments (32)You're such a cool dad, Faron. ;) What does your DD think of her heavy metal lovin' father's taste in music? I'm curious now as to what others listened to (by way of their parents) when they were young. Oh gosh, that question brought back memories. My mom always had records on the stereo (a console cabinet which she owns to this day). I remember being really little and she'd grab me or my younger brother and jitterbug in the living room, but I don't remember the music (very faint memory, just remember I liked her cotton skirts twirling). Clear memories are of 60's folk rock and a bit of country. I remember Peter, Paul & Mary; Glen Campbell (I knew the words to "Wichita Lineman" by heart, she burned a hole through that one, lol), Simon & Garfunkel, New Christy Minstrels, Everly Brothers. I remember "Where Have All The Flowers Gone", "Abraham, Martin & John" and "Leaving On a Jet Plane". Some Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, and lots of Dean Martin 45s. A bit later I remember when the Allman Bros "Ramblin' Man" came on the radio she'd turn it up and sing along, she loved that song. It was kind of cool she like "our" music. ;) I guess her favorite was John Denver, but that was later, too. She has every one of his albums. Actually this gives me an idea. I should buy a collection of her favorite songs and put them on CDs for her, that would make a great gift!...See MoreRandom Thoughts (ok, got the correct forum this time)!
Comments (21)natal, I don't understand hating forwards? Some yes, but there are so many great ones: funny like this one (always good to laugh), and just think of the take-your-breath-away nature photos you'd miss! I have friends I can count on to send beauties and I wait till night so I can view them in the dark. I took a "tour" through Paris and the Louvre via a forward. I'm a sucker for the darling critter pics and videos, too. Oh, and as for videos, some have put tears in my eyes, touching my heart. Of course, along with these are the ones I can count on to require an immediate delete, but the good ones make it all worthwhile...to me. So, natal, how come? I'm just curious, not critical....See MoreCan ceiling fans be mounted in kitchens?
Comments (29)Idie, DH installed the Monte Carlo ceiling fan in the kitchen. The fan part is working like a champ, but the light part, well, he is cussing it. He's encountered the problem with other electrical products from China, where there is a thermostat or sensor will trip the light OFF if it senses the bulb wattage is to great. Mine takes the candelabra bulbs, and it is supposed to stand 60 watts, but it will only take a 7watt nightlight bulb. Not hardly enough to use in the kitchen ceiling. Well, DH plans to take the light portion of the fan down and bypass the shutoff, since we know what wattage to use. I like the engergy saver florescents with the candelabra bases and had some here, but it let them stay on about a half second before shutting those down too. Not to be outdone by a Chinese lantern, DH has moved on to installing the Minka Lavery double ended light fixture horizontally in the hallway. Great design, which will match the same series of sconces by Minka Lavery that I bought SIX MONTHS AGO, to install in the master bath...if and when the contractor ever comes back. Hopefully the second MonteCarlo tiny ceiling fan will NOT have a precocious sensor in it and there will be no issues with the lights working when we install it. Somewhere. Probably in the master bath? It is tiny enough to fit anywhere, even in a walk in closet! I do love it....See Moreamylou321
