ecarpetgallery website - quality of rugs?

I'm looking at 2 wool rugs for my home and their prices seem great. I have emailed about the cost to return if we do not like the quality (about 10% to ship back). Has anyone purchased from this site and have any feedback regarding the quality? Thank you!

If the rugs come in various sizes, order the smallest ones just to see if you like any. Much less expensive to return. I did this last year and returned 4, then I found one I loved in a local store. Lol.

I've purchased about half a dozen wool rugs (mostly Persian style) from ecarpetgallery over the past several years, and I've been very happy with the purchases -- very good quality and very good value for the money. They were also in several instances quite willing to negotiate and offer a better price.

They are mid-to mid-upper end, this segment of the industry is very competitive. Their are many other manufacturers that are in the same price/quality category. The above description is not actually correct, as many if not most of their frames are plywood frames without spring-edge seats. Anytime your paying $2000. plus for a sofa covered in their grade 1 or grade A fabric, it should be hardwood kiln dried frames, double-doweled and glued, 8-way tied coil spring seats, fully lined and padded, "be well tailored", stripe / flow-matched, skirts fitted at ends: not folded back under, Seat cushions should be 2.0+ density HR foam core wrapped with soft HR toppers: not polyester wrap or fill. But this will require quite a bit of effort to find this quality of sofa anymore.

People with handouts about bringing Marshall Field's back in front on the State St. store are laughable and silly at best. How exactly are they going to accomplish that? I'd love to meet some of these retail geniuses. From their website: Our group continues to work hard to restore this icon's distinctively Chicago quality, service and culture, as well as the name "Marshall Field's." What? There has not been a Marshall Field's culture in Chicago for at least 30 years - where have all of these brilliant business people been?

St Michael wool rug from Marks & Spencer--quality?

I grew up with Marks and Spencer sweaters - the quality was great. My mom was from England and my aunt used to send my sisters and I sweaters every year for birthdays and other holidays. As a matter of fact, I bought dinner at one of their stores about 3 months ago - great meal for my aunt and I. M&S was historically known for stocking it's stores with British produced goods and I'd guess that this rug was made with local wool. See the attached - they used to develop and test their own fabrics. My aunt had rugs like that one in her home - remember that style from my early visits to England. From my memory, that's definitely an old M&S label - 'old' being at least back to the 1960s. Up until the late 1990s, their quality was renowned as being very very good and to this day, their food items are really good as well. Globalalization and the resulting importing of goods from other countries negatively impacted the quality of merchandise they stocked but they have made a comeback of sorts. If you google "marks and spencer research laboratory", you'll find more to read...not specifically about rugs, but about their innovative work with fabrics, particularly during/after WWII. Making quality items that lasted was very important in England as it was very much impacted by the war. I'd walk on that rug, if I owned it! Here is a link that might be useful: Marks and Sparks

sugar - we have been told by several general contractors in our area that we have to go with engineered, rather than real wood, because of our constant weather and humidity changes. Engineered wood we were told can handle these changes, and humidity. I worry like you do about how busy acacia will be, but we have decided to do it, as it is dramatic, and we think beautiful. I looked at other wood that was suggested on this site, but going to stick with Acacia. They will install in a few weeks, and I can post pictures then. We really liked the Kentwood brand of wood (headquarters in Kent WA). The top layer is very thick, and we can sand a few times if needed. But we have been told, no one hardly ever sands the floors, by the time they need it, you usually are ready for a new updated change. Hope that helps.

Thank you - i would love to know price points you all purchased? I generally spend more on my rugs, but these are for a mudroom and basement and the rugs (kazak) are more in the $300-600 range.

AB, I went through my old orders since 2018 (when we moved into our new house) and found the following (I'm in Alberta so all prices are Can $),

The Anatolian rug was a miss for the original location (kitchen entrance from the garage), in both color and texture, but I kept it and put it in the basement outside the laundry room. We had just moved and were busy on the farm in the summer, so no time for dealing with a return.

We already had a number of very good quality Persian wool rugs bought in NYC in the eighties (ABC Carpet and Home and other similar rug sellers), ones I bought and others we inherited from my parents, and I needed rugs that would all work together.

One of the most important factors for me was size -- I had some very particular sizes/lengths I needed in our new house -- and I was happy that ecarpetgallery had such a range of changes. And as I wrote above, one rug was for the kitchen entrance from the garage, and one is in the front hall by the front door.
