Masks? What are you seeing if you go out?
Comments (41)In Salt Lake City UT it definitely depends on the the location. Whole Foods it seems like 95% of people are wearing masks, all employees and nearly all customers. Other traditional grocery stores seem to still be the majority, maybe 60-75%. Few wear masks walking or biking in the suburbs. There is no reason you need to get within 6ft of someone in the 'burbs near me if you're out exercising. My rec center recently opened for lap swimming outdoors, weight lifting, and cardio. (I go to swim.) All the employees and maybe half of the customers enter wearing masks (as requested). I went to a plant nursery today and probably 75% of people were wearing masks. I probably won't be hiking for a bit because most of the trails are tight and people are crowding outdoor activities near the city because no one wants to be doing anything indoors in groups and people are stir crazy and ready to get out....See MoreI’m befuttled...this mask thing is driving me crazy!
Comments (54)I'm so sorry that anyone should feel unsafe in their own community. We need decent respectful compassion for our neighbors and fellow community members by making us feel safe wearing masks and all physical distancing when necessary. It is just basic curtesy. I was hoping the rest of the country would learn from our mistakes in NY, NJ, Conn. Hit hard first and did what is best. We know so little about this virus but do know what works. Use all available precautions. Every precaution together adds to the percentage of less transfer. We had three unfortunate home tragedies. The AC went bust. The home softener/reverse osmosis needed service. On the phone they gave specific instructions for safety. Pre covid they would stack indoors and check the system. We asked they stack outside and did the filters ourself via chat. They were thankful and so helpful. Please ask via phone service calls what their protocols are before they visit. We have central AC. It just needed a reset that we could not find on-line. He never came inside and charge peanuts to re-set. (wearing a mask as did DH, outside!). The service fellow was so thankful we were wearing masks. We do 90% of our repairs by trouble-shooting. Remember the appliances forum will talk you through any issues before calling a repair service. Do try that first. I have extra masks. No one enters my home without. No need so far but not playing covid-roulette in my own home. If you do need service unavoidable, open all windows and use fans. Insist they wear masks before they come and be firm. The increase in the country is insane. So horrid for our health care workers. They are stressed beyond human normals. Holding the hands of dying patients. Shame on those not doing their part by wearing such a simple piece of fabric....See MoreFace Mask Pattern: Easy, fit's perfect, NO fogging your glasses.....
Comments (49)oklamoni, I am thinking that maybe since your name includes Oklahoma in it that maybe you are of that state and, possibly, even belong to one of the nations. Having acknowledged that fact could very well be true, I have to ask you just what fabric print is suited for native Americans? I was not aware that peopled who are descended from the tribes are any different in their preferences of such than are any other populations. I would be curious as to what you perceive that preference to be. Of course, some people do gravitate towards a print that speaks for them or about them. I am betting that those who belong to a tribe have much the same preferences as anyone else. Sports logos have always been popular and likely do appeal to more males than females in much the same manner as you see more males wearing sports figures t-shirts. You masks look to be well made and I do acknowledge your efforts....See MoreWho of you are still under "stay-at-home" orders???
Comments (30)I can speak to schools in New Mexico: There will be essentially no in person learning until after Labor Day. There are a few exceptions for special ed students, some K-3, which will be limited to no more than 5 kids per adult. The plan after that time is to bring kids back slowly by age group, starting with the younger ones first. I think at that time the schools will still be limited to 50% capacity, so there are cohorts of certain kids going on Monday and Tuesdays and the second group going on Thursdays and Fridays. One of my sons attends a charter high school and they say that it looks like there will not be kids on campus until October. We have also heard though that school starts August 10th but will of course be online. Connectivity is a huge issue for the state. There are many people with sub-par speeds. At my house I usually get 1 megabyte which is just ridiculously slow and not helpful. All I can do is hope that they upgrade the system, some day. At the community college, most classes will be online, except for those with a lab component. I am not as up to date on requirements for churches. The church I attend has such a small census that we are able to meet. There is no singing, all socializing is outside afterwards and everybody is masked. Most people in our group would agree that you do not need the building to worship, etc., but because of the size of our group and the connections, people needed to see each other, especially because many were otherwise quite isolated. I have been impressed with our governor for the most part. When she walked back dining rooms being open she was asked about why not go back to a total lockdown. She noted that she thought it was just not sustainable long term. I think part of that was just needing to provide people an outlet to do something, even though so many are angry and unreasonable through it all. I feel quite sorry for all those governor's who are trying to do right by their states with the limited information available because no one is happy. I look at NM though where our positivity rate is about 3-5% most days as compared to our neighbors of Texas and Arizona with much higher rates and I think well done governor....See MoreTexas_Gem
