we did get a bit of rain.. the corn uncurled.. grew about a foot in 3 days.. lol .. and then curled again ... lol...

I always thought that corn wasn't an American or Canadian thing. (although I see the USofA does grow a lot of corn)

We are so dry right now. Not even a thunderstorm to break the dearth of rain. I am watering like a madwoman-bought 6 soaker hoses and have them placed in various gardens, but I am not sure how much they are helping once you get a foot from the hose itself. I should dig down to check! Tomorrow, we are supposed to be getting temps around 97F. Ugh.

Today is the first day in about five days it hasn't rained. Sunny in the mornings, thunderstorms in the afternoon. I believe tomorrow more rain is forecast also.

I have no idea how much more or less than usual we got so far (I don't usually follow that) but it was very dry here the last few weeks, so even though I'm starting to feel moldy and soggy, lol, I'm very grateful for the 4.5 inches we've gotten over the last few days. (That is not an official number. That is me sticking a measuring tape in a bucket I found outside lol.) I just wish I had put out my rain barrel two weeks ago like I was thinking about doing...

We're like diggerdee. We got rain on May 16th, then early June was a torrential downpour for about 30-45" of 2" rain. I was glad for the downpour for sure, but I know it all didn't soak in. Dry dry dry since then, and we have now gotten 4 days of good gentle rains that have soaked deeply into the soil. Everybody is so glad to see the rain here! We were in official drought conditions before, and still are, but the last few days have made a big difference.

We've had a tremendous amount of rain for many weeks. But I live in fear of another drought. Last year I had no rain at all from July 5 to Oct. 6. My spring, which has never dried up in living memory finally dried up in late September. It recharged after a good rain a few days later, and has been fine since, but I lost many plants.

We've been running about 70% of our average monthly rainfall (average since we started keeping rain records for the garden in 2004). One benefit of keeping the rain records is putting it all in perspective - e.g. rainfall is very variable from year to year here - for instance we had 82mm. in June, compared to 119mm last year and 89mm for the 2004-2020 average. But the lowest rain amount we had in June was 43mm in 2016! We water new plantings and things in pots, but other than that, things are expected to survive on their own with natural rainfall! We did use soaker hoses in the first few years when we started the garden but, by 2004 when we started keeping the rain records, we had largely stopped using them and they have long since been removed or abandoned. It's tough coping with dry periods and we do sometimes water (by 'flooding' a dry area with the hose running gently in the bed) if somewhere is looking very stressed. Plants are generally tougher than we feared!

Hot and dry here -- really hot and really dry. What a difference from last year early summer when fields were deluged with so much rain farmers lost millions because they couldn't plant. On the bright side, I've been working from home so can water more frequently -- but you all know I *HATE* watering, I hate, hate, hate it. It's either suck it up and do it or look at the crispy mess -- and since I'm home looking out the window all the time now I'd hate the crispy mess more :0/

I dont mind as much hand watering perennials provided I am able to use rain barrel water. But it does bug me when I must resort to using city water as is the case now.

My area is like Deanna’s. After 6+ weeks of no rain we were officially in early stage drought, but have had 3”+ of rain this week and so the lawn is greening up again and the gardens no longer need to be watered. We are still a bit below norms, but much better than 10 days ago.

It has been hot, dry, and windy here. We're headed into the monsoon season and late yesterday afternoon we actually got rain. That's the first night I didn't have to go out and water something in over a month.

Seattle area very wet. All my grasses are splayed, poor vegie garden at a standstill and my hard is a slug city. The worst is the low light with grey skies. Ready to take out my SAD light for me and my garden.

Yup. Me too.

Our own personal perennial garden is just a drop in the bucket ;). Rather in these unparalleled times I pray for good growing conditions for our farmers.

Lacyveil, I can't imagine going three full months during the hottest time fo summer without rain. I can't imagine how expensive that was garden-wise, not to mention all the other stresses of life without water. Having the well run dry stinks. Wow. I don't have much to complain about, I must say! Hope you don't have to go through that again.
