We have a three way in main bathroom. Single handle, touch on, touch off, or touchless. It's been working well since July 2014. Con. Short battery life....approximately 5 months.

I can't speak for in the home, but I hate the ones in public restrooms.

How do you control the temperature of the water?

good questions Lars..I'm curious too. My guess is the touch free it to get the water going to rinse/clean your hands enough to adjust the water temp.

Touchless faucets often have a lever in the back that you pivot left for hot, right for cold, straight up for mixed. Whether a kitchen or bathroom faucet, you'll be using different water temps at different times and if you have to touch it each time to change it, the touchless feature is kinda useless.

Maybe they've developed a new wrinkle where your brain just thinks hard to send a message to the mixing control handle to have it move to right, left or centre?

Or maybe get down on knees in front of sink and have head move: upright for mix or move to left for hot or right for cold?

I can't speak for in the home, but I LOVE the ones in public restrooms. There's nothing worse than having to touch a public restroom faucet to turn it off after you've washed your hands. Whenever/wherever there are paper towels, I always use one when turning off the faucet. But some restrooms don't have paper towels.

I thought I had commented on here but I do not see it. I hate the ones in public restrooms because I can not turn them on. Some sense body heat. Others sense motion. Or so I have been told. My normal body temperature is 97.2 which apparently does not register. They are a nice idea but do not work for everyone.

I LOVE the ones in public restrooms....I hated mine in the kitchen. You can't wash a pan. The water comes on full force every time your hand moves. If you want just a drop or two of water to mix with say.....the cat food....NOT possible, It has no dribble setting.

When we remodeled I asked our contractor and the plumber about them and got mixed reviews. But the one comment the plumber made stuck with me (and it's the reason why we didn't install them) - he said that you should never leave the stopper in the sink. One of his client's had a major problem when the sensor activated during the night, the stopper was in the sink and the water overflowed onto the floor and ruined the wood floor. The owner thought that perhaps the cat had walked in the sink and activated it and for some reason it didn't shut off.

It sounded like a freak event but we opted for a regular faucet.

You shouldn't buy a car with keyless entry either. There are phone apps that will gain access to your keyless car if you forget to put the key fob to sleep.

Some contractors come up with the most silly excuses. Who even knows where the disposer stopper is? LOL

A cat on a kitchen counter is worse than the risk of faucet activation. IMO

The touch-less are nice in a bathroom where the sink is only used for hand-washing and you don't need to keep changing the temperature. In a kitchen or utility room they are a nuisance.

I too hate the ones in public restrooms. My hands must be invisible. For home use, even though you could figure out the "sweet spot" to turn on the water, you'd forever after have to stock batteries for the darn thing. Not worth it. If I'm going to be doing a dirty or germy job, I tear a few paper towels to use. Can't remember the last time my hands were unexpectedly so dirty that turning on the faucet posed a difficulty.

I'm forever waving my hands, moving them around under the faucet etc in public washrooms to get the darned thing to start. Since it only lasts a few very short seconds, the process starts all over again. I hate them.

Jasdip....feel ya gurl! In the kitchen it's too much water. Just moving your hand to hit a setting ....sets the faucet off! ☺ or ...maybe not.....it's having a bad day, being fussy!

My wife and I haven't had a car WITHOUT keyless entry in the last 15 years. I'm not sure, what cars have keyed doors only? Are there any? It's not a real risk as you suggest, in my experience.

How do you put a fob to sleep? That's something new, never heard of such a thing. This is a most unlikely risk.

FYI Because I found it interesting, the 2019 Toyota 4-Runner has keyed doors AND ignition....but the model down from the off road package was keyless.

Husband says the key comes with the off road package.

I have a funny (sort of) story about touchless water dispensers. Our local hospital system uses them. When I had a family member in the hospital, it was driving me crazy that the dispenser seemed to be so finicky; sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t, no one could figure out why. Eventually I did. The cups at the dispenser were clear plastic with a small logo on one side, Because the cups were clear, the dispenser didn’t always sense the motion of something in front of it! Only if the logo or your hand was directly in front of the sender, did you get water.

I was so excited one day when I was filling my cup, and a staff person near me was amazed at my contortions to get the cup positioned just right. He said they all just thought the dispensers were on the fritz, and shared the technique with staff.

But, 3 years later, they still have the same dispensers throughout the system and, worse, the same clear plastic cups with one small logo. If they just repeated the logo a few times around the cup, all would be well.

Love my old Delta single handle faucet with knob on the handle. . My hands and wrists are never so sloppy that I can't find a spot on them to adjust the water.

Key fob security (sleeping fob) is about a year old. Ford, Audi, BMW and Volkswagen offer the security feature in some models. Those manufacturers happen to believe that keyless car theft is on the rise.

GM still offers plenty of keyed vehicles in lower model lineup.

I like sarcasm as much as anyone. In written communication, best to indicate that's what's been said in whatever way you choose to.

My newest car is 3 years old so that's a feature I haven't heard of. But one that would fall into the category of an engineer's dream - "what can we get it to do?", versus the marketers' thought of "what do customers want it to do?" I have enough car insurance, if you want to take my car, go ahead.

One of my cars has a "disable" feature that travels by RF to the car via its own cellular connection. If my car is stolen, I call the manufacturer, and they locate the car (by pinging the onboard GPS system) and bring it to a stop. Another mostly useless feature but something the salesmen like to crow about.

We opted for a Tapmaster foot controlled faucet activator. DH isn't much a gadget guy and was less than enthusiastic about my purchase but we both love it. (It is a bit humorous at friend's homes when we repeatedly tap the baseboard, not understanding why the water doesn't turn on. ;) )

I have the automatic faucets in my bathroom and kitchen and really like them. In the bahtroom we just leave it set at one temp so you might have to wait for it to get warm. In the kitchen we can move the lever to hot or cold. I like not having to turn it on and off. They are the cheaper additions to my current faucet and last 2-3 years. Batteries last about a year. The only funny part is when I go some place without faucets and wave my hands underneath or forget to turn it off.
