Need suggestions-ideas for high traffic area....
Comments (6)The first thing I would recommend is you draw up your plans with materials and take it to your city zoning office. I can't speak for your area but in most you have to buy permits for most major improvements, especially outdoor ones. Most cities have different rules based on the areas. In my area I would have to have a permit for that pergola. I will say that it most likely would have to be anchored and whether it needs done in advance is going to depend on your columns because extremely high winds/tornado could lift it away and drop it on someone else's home. Don't take a chance on doing something that later your city or county comes out and tells you it needs removed. After the work is done they come out and inspect it. I ran underground pvc piping for part of my gutters. Where it came out at was flat ground so at the end we installed a popup. When the pvc gets full it does exactly that, pops up to release water. Has worked great the 2 years it's been in. I will say you really need to have gutter guard on your house gutters to prevent leaves and tree seeds from filling up and going into your underground gutters and clogging them up. I did not need any base other than dirt with the pvc and I just put the dirt and grass right back on top. This year I am making a garden bed over to the edge of it. Most people do use sand for paver filler. I did on some of mine and hated it. This is maple leaf seed area and I have to use the vacuum/blower on that area. It just blows the sand right out. Will not do that again. Will fill with dirt and any weeds that come up just requires a once or twice a year spraying. But you may not have the same problems. Sounds like you have a lot of work ahead of you and a lovely area planned. Hope you come back so we can see results as you go. Cher...See MoreRye mix vs Tall Fescue for high traffic area
Comments (9)I had 2 VERY active dogs in our yard for years with no problem except where they dug or peed on.They were both males and where 1 peed the other did as well. You just have to water the potty areas alot to wash out the acid.Rye grass will grow on a rock if it's waterd enough,LOL so you should be good with that.Try putting down some annual rye first, then once that is growing you can put the prennial rye (sp) down and it will take hold much better.Dogs and kids dont hurt your lawn if you take care of it.Our yard was always the yard all the kids played in and it looked great all the time....See MoreHelp! Comments (4)I had that problem when we moved in into this previous used house, a hight traffic area were everyone cuts to get to the front door its was awfull, we tried seeds no result, bcs people kept walking over it, after a year I decided just to water the bear part in the mornings or evenings when I knew people weren't coming, and slightly sprinkle the rest, I also pulled some of the grown grass from other parts of the lawn and planted a few pices, well that worked for me and that still a traffic area, but I keep watering more the path than the other part of the lawn, and my neighbor accross the st told me the people that reside here before could never get the grass to grow, since I live in a budget that worked for me, hopefully I gv you an idea on what to do now if you have the money I seen on tv theres some kind of grass that even grows on cement good luck to you....See MoreWill I regret a soft wood floor in a high traffic area?
Comments (7)We did a reno 10 years ago that involved a large country kitchen and what was the master bedroom in an old farm house. The master bedroom was already fir floor and the kitchen had some layers of lino on it, the fellow doing the reno tore all of the old lino off and tried to sand off the old black tar like glue that held down the original lino. It was taking forever, so he took the fir floor up in the kitchen and turned it over and refinished the other side. It is a very high traffic area and we now have 2 corgis tearing around and it is starting to show some wear. But it is an old house and suits the era of the house. What was the master bedroom we took the wall part way back opening it up to our kitchen and made it our tv sitting area. Made it all very useful. The floors are not perfect but they suit the old house....See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
