Help with family room decor- lots of pics!
Comments (19)Okay- couch is still against the windows. Rug is turned sideways... looks much better!! rings from the curtains are moved outside the brackets. (and all curtain rods, blinds, and window sills are dusted, as is the top of the EC!!! Yipeee! :) lol. I am liking this more and more. Regarding moving the couch opposite the fireplace- that seems to be the most popular idea. The reason I put it where it is in the above photo (best seen in the 3rd photo where I showed different arrangements) is because then the rug is centered in the room (with the windows and entertainment center.) If I move it closer to the fireplace, then the couch is more in front of the EC, cutting it off. Does that make sense? We're not huge TV people.. my daughter doesn't even watch one second of TV (that will change... but she has a play room upstairs for that, in the future.) Do I have to have one focal point? When we have friends over, the TV is NOT on- focal point- fireplace. When it's just my H and myself, focal point- TV/Entertainment center. I'm not sure why I feel the need for a coffee table... I looked at storage ottomans yesterday at Bassett. I like that idea but yikes! They were around $600... I was hoping to spend less. If I went that route- what color would you suggest? Finallly- luv2look- Our entertainment center is by Hooker, called Brookhaven. I bought it online from a place called Basista. I had a great experience with them and saved almost half compared to buying locally. I also got my Bradington and Young chairs through them. I will link the EC below. HTH! Thank you all. I'll try to get an updated pic up for more CC :)...See MoreDifferent wood tones on furniture throughout house?
Comments (8)I think one tone everywhere is horribly boring!! I don't even like it much in one room myself, unless the style of the room calls for that. I prefer, even in the same room to mix AND MATCH. It's busy when the pieces don't match in some way, either in tone or scale or style. White pine and oak both look great together. Rosewood, mahogany and walnut tend to look good together as well. Burl maple or birds eye is fabulous with dark woods like walnut, and then ebony wood tends to go with everything. As long as the styles are compatible the pieces look good and it's not too busy because you have linked the pieces in some way to flow. All the same just makes your eye want to go blah and you lose the details of both the room and a piece because nothing is unique enough to stand out or catch your eye. Mind you I am probably prejudice given that I can't think of one room in either of my homes that has just one wood in it. The one I'm in now has....quick count, 7 woods....See MoreNew house - No idea how to decorate with red toned wood!
Comments (1)The ceiling light must be on a dimmer. Much better lighting in the bedroom is a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner. Red is a strong color and you have a medium sized room. When thinking about interior design, I am a strong believer in respecting the exterior of the home as well as the other rooms in the home. Let's get some unity, here! Take your cue from those areas. Think about the colors, textures, and styles in the other rooms. Bring some of those elements in this room. What is your inspiration? A piece of fabric or wall decor that you love? A table accessory, or sculpture? If you don't have anything to start from, visit your local art gallery. Begin with that and keep us informed as you go through this process!...See Morenew house has rustic wood flooring and rustic wood ceiling white beams
Comments (2)I think you can't ever go wrong with white blinds. Especially if they are high quality custom ones, they will be around longer than your current color scheme....See MoreLouisa Herrera
