Ikea cabinet install help - does this look strange?
Comments (61)" I actually don't blame the GC. He built what was on the plans." Nope. He doesn't get off that easily. He should know better and be experienced enough to correct an architect. I've done it many times and they hate it. Here's a picture of wayyyy out-of-code winding stairs on a home I'm doing a countertop for that were built in the 90s. I can promise you the architect drew 4 risers pointing into that corner, that's what the framer framed, and amazingly, inspection passed. My customer is pregnant with her first, and the thought of a toddler taking a 29" step with no handrail in a couple years gives me the willies. Of course there is a landing and another set just like these, doubling her chances of injury. I would have told the customer I was sorry, but the bedroom door would have to be moved, because a 6" minimum tread width at the corner would require more run. Were I installing Katrina's cabinets, I would have refused until the paper pushers worked it out and backcharged for ruining my schedule. 'Cause when the red tags come flyin', everyone looks to not pay the guy who put it in wrong first, no matter who or what was drawn....See MoreIkea, Axstad. A new cabinet door style....white shaker!
Comments (125)@Terri Wilson We did a pretty large order of axstad too. $13,000 which was available over several months. Definitely delayed during a pandemic. I posted my old kitchen and was advised to check out the axstad and after going to several cabinet/ kitchen companies and seeing what we could get it, it was an easy decision. Getting an experienced installer to do the customizing we wanted has been a challenge as well, but we are in the thick of it right now. I think we will love it when it's done. We are also replacing a large upstairs cabinet, 2 built in hutches and a laundry room, several with base cabinets that needed to be cut to fit the proper depth. Good luck with your project....See MoreIkea + custom doors - can doors get installed last?
Comments (25)@jdesign_gw, thanks. I gave up on the extra complications awhile back. Ordering at least two Godmorgons and sticking with the IKEA sinks (and probably faucets). The Cabinet Face and a few others offer side panels as well as drawer fronts in the wood veneers, so I'm going with that. And I sent my G.C. to IKEA (and provided videos) so he could see the plumbing differences. :) I was just asking the question in case somehow we wrecked a drawer front at some point. Wondering how difficult it is to replace (do you have to take the whole thing apart, or replace the whole cabinet too?)....See MoreBack of peninsula ideas for IKEA Axstad blue and white kitchen, please
Comments (2)Well, it is going to depend on the style of the rest of the house, particularly the dining area but there are so many options. Beadboard, tongue and groove horizontally, herringbone or chevron, shiplap, panelling to mimic wainscoting (you can do this easily with MDF trim), barnboard, tile in a pattern to match your backsplash choice or maybe a larger scale than the backsplash but the same style/design. If you post pictures of your kitchen choices and the dining room, you'll likely get lots of suggestions....See Moremillworkman
