opinions needed on hardwood floor stain color!
Comments (6)Pictures would help but right now I'm thinking light floors with the espresso furniture would look best - esp. if you like the grain showing more. Maybe a light stain? Don't use tung oil (or any kind of oil) on floors - it really doesn't hold up to traffic or liquid. I have linseed oil and beeswax on my stair treads, we don't even wear shoes in the house and it's a constant battle. I plan on varnishing or polyurethaning the treads after the latest coat of wax has worn (and I have to use naptha to make sure all the wax is off) and we have a week when the kids can go to grandma's. My cousin used Waterlox varnish on his wide pine floors (house built in 1743, though I don't know when the 2nd story was added) and they look amazing! A lot of people swear by it. Gloss will wear better than satin, but if you like the satin look, just use it as the final coat with gloss (2 coats) underneath....See Morewould a grey dining table work with my blonde hardwood floors?
Comments (8)I do like the dark brown table option better. Someone did mention in the comments the flooring does make the grey table look blue and it's true. I'm glad you are taking samples against the flooring because different colors in a room will actually change the colour of another. That's why it's so important before we fully decide on an option we get all the sample we are using together on a colour board to see how all the materials and colours look together. Sometimes you can find grey tables that have a tint of grey to it which will still look great. If your mind is set on this table I would go with it!...See MoreWhat color to stain my hardwood floors
Comments (4)I am answering not from a place of how any of these stains look because my taste is terrible. With that said, I would pick a medium stain over a dark stain because dark floors show everything, and I have neither the time or the energy to try to make them look nice....See MoreHardwood installer not liking my choice of stain! Comments (12)I am thinking he is trying to be helpful. My floor guy steered me away from dark floors- I was pretty set on Jacobean or something similar. He was worried that it would suck all the light out of the room. Entire first floor, actually. He’s a well respected floor guy and did do the Jacobean on my friend’s floor- they were dead set on it. I ended up with a medium brown stain, some custom mix he made for me, and so glad he helped me make that choice. Definitely prefer it for my space....See MoreJ. Appelbaum
