designing a pool for sloped back yard with fence
Comments (1)This problem would be best explored in plan view. Prepare a base plan showing the existing hardscape features, property limits and tree trunk locations. How you run the fence would depend on those things in addition to the shape, size and location of the pool. Your thread title indicates that grade is major constraint, but it does not show in the photos you've provided. You'll need to find a way to make it obvious in the pictures....See MorePlease help with backyard deck and pool design
Comments (14)where do you live? will the pool be closed 9 months of the year, for example? while we adore our RI pool, i wish the previous owners had built it further from the house. we have 3 months of pool and 9 months of pool cover. so if you can site yours a bit further from the house, with a patio in between, you'll enjoy your yard more. also, be 100% on top of what your local code requires as far as gates, alarms, etc. most of the 'pretty pools' shown at houzz would get a big frown from the inspector. you'll save a lot of time and a lot of money on discarded designs if you go in knowing whats what. you can not depend on contractors to know the code on pools....See MoreBackyard Design Dilemma
Comments (16)If privacy for the patio was wanted, a small section of hedge planted outside the existing hedge, a few feet away from it, would be an easy way to block the view so outsiders could not see directly into the patio area (along the lines of how privacy is created without using doors at airport bathrooms.) In this way access could be maintained. However, if that's not needed, I don't see the reason to close off the opening ... unless you were going to fill it in with matching arborvitaes for a solid hedge. Insofar as just "sprucing it up," it looks like what it really needs is improved grass. But you say you've already done that. Another possibility ... the mulch bed below the hedge could be filled in with low groundcover so as to look at green instead of brown ... but it's such a small sliver of bed that it wouldn't make a huge difference. The bed could be widened and filled with groundcover for effect. As far as planting something up against the hedge, I'd be careful about doing that because it's sure to cast shade and create a permanent hole in whatever portion shades the arborvitae surface. In other words, I can only see low, groundcover type plantings being safely placed against the hedge....See MoreModern Backyard Pool Design - Comments Please
Comments (3)I had a pool ... based on my experience, I'd put more space between the home and the pool, so that the main "seating" can be in that area. Then, expand the side area (where the seating currently is) to give people options/allow for additional sunbathing or seating under the awning or in the sun....See MoreYardvaark
