What would you do? Surprise pipes during renovation.
Comments (13)You may not be in trouble. IKEA kitchen base cabinets do not sit on the floor. They sit on legs which raise them up. Therefore the pipe may fit underneath the cabinet. Your stove may have a cutout at the bottom rear for an electrical outlet and cord. For example, if you look at the installation instructions for the GE PHB920SJSS (picked at random) you will see that there is a 4" deep, 6-1/2" high cutout at the back of the range. This may be large enough space for the pipes at the back of the stove....See MoreCooking During the Isolation Pandemic
Comments (21)I drove to meet a friend at his boat slip this morning, to get a guitar that he is giving to DS. An Ovation Applause, nice step up from the cheapo guitar that DS has been learning on. During the drive home, I stopped to get breakfast from McDonald’s drive through. Not something I usually do, but was hungry and wanted to do something that felt “normal”. Then I got to worry about if the food was safe, how it is prepared, if it was heated enough to kill any virus. I concluded that it was safe enough, but having to do the calculation sort of put me off trying that again. I’m trying to support some local restaurants, especially Chinese ones, by ordering takeout sometimes. I bring the containers home and microwave them, so everything is heated to well over 140F (virus dies quickly at/above that temp). I’m not ordering burgers, sandwiches or anything that has a non-heated component - I’ll make that stuff at home. I was amusing myself with some calculations. Oregon has about 600 reported cases, suppose actual number is 6,000, and suppose they are all in Portland, that’s about 1% of city population. Assuming random distribution, for every person you encounter there is a 99% chance they are not ill. If you encounter 100 people a day, there is a 99% ^ 100 = 37% chance you have not encountered an ill person. Thus an 63% chance you do encounter an ill person. If there is a 1% chance you actually get exposed to virus each time you encounter an ill person, that’s 63% x 1% = 0.63% chance to be exposed to virus each day. Over a month, that’s ( 1 - 0.63% ) ^ 30 = 18% chance of being exposed to virus. Oof. People working in grocery stores etc should have protection. In one local grocery chain here, they are taking very, very good precautions. Only allow 20 people in at a time, you’re directed to avoid an aisle if someone else is in it, you must buy anything you touch, cashiers are behind acrylic shields, conveyor belts and PIN pads sanitized between customers, special hours reserved for elderly/vulnerable, etc. The big national chains are taking few precautions....See MoreWashers in short supply during pandemic - who knew?
Comments (2)Yup, I hit this problem in July when my 15 year old Maytag washer died. There’s a huge backlog and the supply chain of appliances and replacement parts is dry (no pun intended). while I ended up replacing the $260 transmission in mine to get it back into service, I later found that the small mom & pop appliance dealers had better inventory in my area...Reno‘s Appliance here in NJ had Speed Queen TC5000 toploaders at $929 and $30 delivery. Same for big online sellers such as appliancesconnection.com You might get better results by shopping the small appliance stores in your area. If not, appliancesconnection.com shows the Speed Queen LWN432 commercial old school machine (no water level setting, and warranty is parts only, nice clicky timer) in stock for $829 and free shipping....See MoreDo you have your Federally Compliant Driver's License yet? LADIES!
Comments (74)I am, obviously, in Ohio. I got m EDL last year, in April. I do have a passport, but I took EVERYTHING that was listed, including the registrars copy of our marriage license, NOT the fancy church one, as it instructs us. I had everything in a manila envelope. The lady only looked at a few things, but mainly used the passport. Then was required to have someone else come and verify her work. DON'T assume that a passport alone will be enough. My DH's was refused. And he had to have verification of most everything also. He went the next day to a different office, and they accepted his passport. I asked why it hadn't been accepted at the office I went to, and the explanation was that if anything had been keyed in wrong, they couldn't change it, that it would kick it out of the system for 24 hours. I asked both people who helped me, separately, and got the same answer. My girlfriend has been widowed twice and divorced once. She had to find all of the documentation from all of them. I do not plan to fly again, but can still be called for jury duty to a federal building, and you never know, I may have to fly again, even if I don't want to. At some point, I will probably let my passport expire, but who knows. I need to check and see when it expires!...See Moreroxanna7
