jejvtr: Thanks for the complements on my bedroom, though it's still in the "getting the bones right" stage--as is the rest of my house. This forum has been so helpful--you cannot imagine! I can see a rug working in this room as well. I remember your lovely dining room drapes and I also like pinch pleats on a decorative rod. For so long I was thinking I had to use a double rod and I did not want 2 rows of rings--plus I do not like clips. However, a salesperson told me at RH that I can use loop rings (or simply remove the clips and use them as loop rings)--which then got me rethinking the rod setup. Then today I was looking at a website that mentioned a layered treatment with a traverse rod below and a decorative above--which again got me thinking as that way I won't have 2 layers of rings and I have much more choice of rods! Regarding the mirror, I don't think I will have room for both it and the TV, plus we also put in 2 mirrored closet doors in the room (not in the pics). What do you think of Les' suggestions for a vase and table lamp? I'm really not sure what would be better--center or off to the side. Hope some others chime in on that one--or perhaps squirrel will kindly do a few mock ups for me--pretty please.

Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?

Susan - I have the black cabinet but we moved it across the room by the sliding barn door so it doesn't really relate to the other side of the room with the bed. It didn't have a great spot over by the bed anyway. I have been collecting art ideas for several weeks now with black to try to pull the black around around the room but our style is too much all over the place and none of the ones we like have anything to do with each other and I haven't hit exactly on the right proportions in terms of size/placement. I love this artist (Linda Tilman, who happens to live in my new city!) but I probably need to limit my mod dog art vs have it everywhere: I just can't seem to pick which side of the line I want to be on: just pick something and finish the room "good enough" vs. spend more time focusing on how to make it nice. In the meantime, we just live with half painted/half primed walls and standby furniture and now it's been a few years, even! It's not like we are kids just starting out, either.

Random thoughts: - Wow, that's a lot of stuff in a small space. While it fits, I don't think you have enough space for comfort. - You have nine doors in your master suite ... plus two more immediately outside the suite. In contrast, I have eleven in my whole downstairs. You've divided things too much; those doors will take up all your wall space. Consider that in the bathroom you have a separate room for the sink ... a separate room for the toilet ... and a separate room for the bathing apparatus. Those things are going to look odd each in their own rooms. You're empty nesters, so I assume aging-in-place is a concern for you? All these doors will be problematic if you have arthritic hands or mobility issues. - The worst door is the one on the toilet closet; this closet looks particularly small, and you won't be able to close the door once you're in there -- even if it were larger, these things are awful for elderly people. Consider, too, that you need some storage near the toilet ... for TP now, perhaps for other items once you're elderly. What you're doing is regulating yourself to a mall toilet stall; consider, too, that if you need to add grab bars to both sides of the room, the usable space in the room will decrease further still. You're going to use this toilet multiple times a day ... make it accessible and comfortable. - You're talking about a Japanese tub ... aren't these usually round? Yet your bathing room is laid out for a rectangular tub. - I don't like that the sink, the most used item in the bathroom, is going to be in a windowless room. - I like your connection between the closet and the laundry ... but you have no space for "waiting loads", no space for storage of detergent and other laundry items, no space for drip-drying items. Also, your dryer would be cheaper /more fire safe if it were placed on an exterior wall so you could vent it directly. - I see that the closet faces the front of the house, so I assume you need those windows-in-closet for symmetry ... but do consider what type of window coverings you'll use to protect your clothing from sun damage. - Your master is a nice size. - The exterior door in the master is an excellent idea ... for fire safety, if nothing else ... but what's the little bumpty-bump into which it opens? This is going to be expensive to build, and then it'll be odd to exit into that little space. If you incorporate that space into the master, you could have an overstuffed chair /footrest, which could be a great place to sit and read (if your lighting is right), and you could still have the exterior door in that spot. Yes! This general concept simplifies your overly-complex plan. It'll make access to these areas more convenient and will eliminate all those doors, doors, doors. Maybe lose all those entry doors /place ONE BEDROOM DOOR between the foyer and the suite, the spot where you currently have a cased opening. Not sure how the little office will be used, but agree with the other poster on putting the laundry there instead. Yes! How about moving the laundry to the office ... and put a built-in desk in the spot that currently holds laundry.
