House exterior makeover ideas needed .
Comments (12)The entire house would look better if it was clad in the same material on all four sides. It needs to be a different color also, the existing color does nothing for the house. I would get rid of both the overhangs over the front and side door and replace both of those doors with a contrasting color once you decide on the exterior. I would not do shutters or any type of stone. The back deck also needs a makeover. New outdoor lighting and landscaping would do wonders for this house....See MoreTotal exterior makeover!! Comments (8)I like your ideas. I think a medium charcoal gray or weathered wood roof would look nice. I wonder if you could set the addition back about two feet with a square bump out in the middle. The roof line could be lower than the main house. Inside, it could be a vaulted ceiling. Clad it in clapboards or flat panels with trim; see the section next to the garage below. This is an example of the setback and the center bay, although not the same style as you house. Of course no Gambrel roof....See MoreHouse exterior makeover - Eager for ideas!
Comments (16)You could also replace the lattice (which doesn't suit the house style) with a wood, "fencing" style - ie horizontal or vertical, narrow planks. If stone doesn't work out for some reason. I would stain the steps, that wood replacement, and any wood front door a darker brown than the orange-y roof, or a grey-brown that is compatible with the roof, or a darker version of whatever you put on the body of the house. Use the same color on your trim around the windows and doors. My goal is to reduce the visual impact of the large orange-y roof by bringing complementary but not matching colors. Of course, you might like the roof color - I just don't, but I have seen good use of colors that work well with it. If you decide to address the stucco, I suggest that you choose a lighter color for the house, and a darker shade for the huge garage - to make the house stand out more, and the garage visually recede a bit. Two nice planting areas that follows the curves of the driveway approaches to the garages, will also reduce the visual impact of the garages. Plant it with a mix of smaller/lower perennials and evergreens where it is more in front of the house, and add a few taller shrubs (not any that will get too big or require a lot of pruning to keep in check) and/or small trees - maybe even a dwarf fruit tree if you'd like - in front of the garages. That will also help to balance out the large tree there. It's a beautiful specimen but hides most of the house....See MoreExterior Makeover Help
Comments (13)Add more light at the front door and more personality in that recess with a custom transom above it. This is just for concept. A hanging light would hep too.You could paint the garage doors to match the window trim so they would fade away. Figure out a way to move those two downspouts away from the entrance. Then find a pro who can help you develop a new landscape plan. Some of it can be installed this fall and some next spring. Avoid died mulch; go for natural like cypress to help repel pests and to degrade nicely over time....See MoreCorey Detar
