Help with ideas for exterior makeover.

We are replacing the original aluminum siding and windows on our 1969 2 story. We'd like to take this opportunity for a substantial makeover and are hoping that we can get some great ideas here.

Plans are:

1. Replace siding and use Board & Batten or shakes as accents. Leaning toward 5" clapboard in either a darker blue/gray combo or a sage.

2. Replace windows likely using top-only farmhouse style grids.

3. Replace round front porch columns with 8" square.

4. Replace entry door and sidelights with a 1/4 glass craftsman/farmhouse style.

Our design problems are:

1. What to do with the brick - work with it, paint, or replace?

2. Shutters or wider white trim?

3. Should be change the roof line over the front door? We'd like a bit more altitude and light over the entry, but don't think that this would do with the architecture.

Here are a few pics, and thanks!
