why is the lattice there?

I would paint the house white again.

I would keep the garage door white, and replace the lights with larger ones.

Stain the entry porch dark step dark paint the risers white, If you can afford a wood door do, if not you could do the diy wood look. but to keep is simple white will blend away.

Paint the window trim as well.

Cute house! If the stucco is "real," ie a masonry concrete-type coating, then yes it does need to breathe or may cause issues like peeling paint or mold if moisture gets trapped in the walls. Acrylic paints should not be used, but you could use silicate or lime- based mineral paint to change a color. These are commonly used in Europe which has a lot of masonry (and more of a preservation ethic frankly) but in the US you may have to look for it. Re trim color you could either do an analogous color scheme and choose another brown or griege.... or a contrasting accent color would jazz it up nicely. Look at greens, blues, or blue green.... those are opposite yellow/orange on the color wheel. A grayed or muddied version of any of those colors would work too if you want something a little more subtle.

Clean it then! Seriously.... you'd have to anyway to add any sort of coating. Per suggestions from Limeworks.us I used D/2 biological solution on my 100 yr old concrete exterior thinking I would put a color mineral paint over, but it looks SO much better I just put clear potassium silicate (aka waterglass) on instead. The aged concrete still looks old but it doesnt look dirty, I was amazed at the amts of dirt, algae and black grungy mildew that came out of it - a hundred year accumulaton! Yuck.

In the pic it looks like there might have been trim around the windows that the OP removed - if its just dirt and discoloration deal with that first and then assess the situation., whether youd want to change the color or not.

You could also replace the lattice (which doesn't suit the house style) with a wood, "fencing" style - ie horizontal or vertical, narrow planks. If stone doesn't work out for some reason.

I would stain the steps, that wood replacement, and any wood front door a darker brown than the orange-y roof, or a grey-brown that is compatible with the roof, or a darker version of whatever you put on the body of the house. Use the same color on your trim around the windows and doors.

My goal is to reduce the visual impact of the large orange-y roof by bringing complementary but not matching colors. Of course, you might like the roof color - I just don't, but I have seen good use of colors that work well with it.

If you decide to address the stucco, I suggest that you choose a lighter color for the house, and a darker shade for the huge garage - to make the house stand out more, and the garage visually recede a bit.

Two nice planting areas that follows the curves of the driveway approaches to the garages, will also reduce the visual impact of the garages. Plant it with a mix of smaller/lower perennials and evergreens where it is more in front of the house, and add a few taller shrubs (not any that will get too big or require a lot of pruning to keep in check) and/or small trees - maybe even a dwarf fruit tree if you'd like - in front of the garages. That will also help to balance out the large tree there. It's a beautiful specimen but hides most of the house.

I also hate the orang-y roof color. I think maybe the previous owner was going for a cedar look? I have been looking for color scheme that look good to me with cedar colors, and I like the white and black in the picture below. Do you think black trim could work? Your suggestion of wooden fencing on the front of the house is intriguing. Do you have any photos of what you have in mind, or some key words I could search for to pull pictures? I like the current color with white trim. Match siding the color for the lattice so it disappears. Another option for the lattice is horizontal or vertical plank.

Back to the stucco question. I'm retracting my dirt theory. It kinda looks to me like the lighter areas are repairs and thats why colors dont quite match. Looks to me like there was wider trim around windows and doors that was removed, maybe when new doors and windows installed, and then stucco patched in to repair the damaged areas. You can see where there were cracks and holes elsewher ethat were patched. The new stucco is a slightly different color due to different colorants or ingredients added to the mix. Could have different sand, different texture.... Its not a horrible job, but still - maybe that's an argument in favor of changing the color .... if you wanted to. I would also think about putting back thicker beefier trim around the windows and doors . Originally the windows would have been adjoining ie. the section of three windows would have trim between ea window in addition to trim around all three. I would try to replicate that look with the trim as much as possible - to give it more a vintage-y appeal.

How old is this house anyway?

I agree the variation in colors appears to be repairs on the cracked stucco. That being said, I will try to wash with the suggested solution to see if that helps. We have been in the house for 2 years, and I have never washed it. The house is in Wyoming and was built in the late 70s. It was originally wood siding. Thanks again for your suggestions!!

If you decide to paint the stucco, use Elastomeric paint specially formulated for stucco. Dunn Edwards makes a good one

I tried to find a picture to illustrate my suggestion, but this is the closest I could find quickly - so use your imagination here to see it sized for your application, and perhaps with the planks spaced farther apart - or positioned vertically instead, like a picket fence, with top and bottom frames like the upright frames here. It is something that would have to be built, I doubt you could find it pre-made like lattice.

Does the current lattice disguise a crawl space, or is it just there as a decorative thing?

This is such a creative idea! The only thing I can see that it disguises is the above ground portion of the concrete for the basement. I think it is just there for decoration. Hard to tell until I remove it. Thanks again!

Keep in mind your shrubs may cover most of what you do when they mature…just painting lattice to match the house may be the way to go for now…another consideration that is more noticeable may be to dress up the driveway a little….by adding a border ?…more gravel ?…as there may be a mud problem in the winter..lastly with this setting and the general neutral colors of the house , i might try some color on the trims and garage doors choosing a loden green,perhaps, to connect with the surrounding trees and nature
