Advice please! Exterior makeover of mid century home
Comments (21)Thanks so much, everyone, for helping me out with your perspectives! As a next step I am going to get a landscape designer out here for a consultation. The previous homeowners were avid gardeners, and these plants are popular in the PNW (Japanese maples, rhodies & azaleas, wisteria, clematis, burning bushes, japanese umbrella pine, etc) so I hear you on your advice about being thoughtful about what to keep/get rid of. We've obviously let them overgrow to the point they are out of hand. However there is some benefit in the privacy they create - as we have one of the few acreage properties left in our (desirable) location so we want to consider how we maximize what is unique and special in our property. Appreciate your help!...See MoreHouse exterior makeover ideas needed .
Comments (12)The entire house would look better if it was clad in the same material on all four sides. It needs to be a different color also, the existing color does nothing for the house. I would get rid of both the overhangs over the front and side door and replace both of those doors with a contrasting color once you decide on the exterior. I would not do shutters or any type of stone. The back deck also needs a makeover. New outdoor lighting and landscaping would do wonders for this house....See MoreFlat house exterior makeover ideas
Comments (17)Really nice home as is. If you've already added the front stoop cover, just pause and see how you like that after a time. Not sure you could do much, even add a dormer or skylight, without a permit. One thing you might be able to do, especially if the windows are single pane glass, is upgrade your windows to be more energy efficient and, where practical, install larger windows, perhaps even bay windows. Would not try to change the basic design of the house. Definitely would not paint brick and white trim in a sunny climate is a good idea to avoid fading issues. To "upscale" your home, consider practical landscaping. You could outline your driveway and sidewalk with bricks that match the house bricks or use pavers and then move the plants away from the front of the house and create a small private front yard patio on the left side of the house with a green fence between patio and the road -- something simple: a place for two chairs and a small table between them, perhaps adding a plain concrete bird bath in the middle of the front yard (with a solar water fountain in it) that is visible from the patio. Perhaps a smaller version of this: https://www.houzz.com/photos/less-lawn-more-garden-traditional-entry-new-york-phvw-vp~131984...See MoreHelp! Exterior makeover ideas. Comments (2)Which door is the front door? I think it would be nice if one door stood out as the front and the walkway went directly to that door....See MoreHU-278908930
