not repotting the big jade, cutting it back instead
Comments (3)Excellent! That's what I hoped you'd do! I think the plant, from root to leaf, is going to thank you for the trim. Was the balance of the plant, in regards to tipping, improved? Re: rooting jade DON'T water. After you make cuttings, let the cut-ends callous over (dry, somewhat whitish). You can literally let them sit in an empty pot (not in direct sunlight) until they shoot out little white roots, then you can pot them - and give them water after about a week and a half. Or, you can pot the cuttings directly, once they're calloused over, and wait for growth to begin giving the cuttings water. Most importantly, don't begin watering until the cuttings have viable roots. Without roots, they can't use the water. Josh...See MoreObtaining Jade Stem Cuttings
Comments (28)Are you kidding me?? Is it really so hard to get jade cuttings? I'm also on Dave's Garden, where many users trade cuttings, seeds, etc., and jade seems to be the one thing people DON'T want, because it's OVERABUNDANT! I don't mean to sound negative at all - I'm just floored. I have more jade than I know what to do with! The vast majority of it is straight-up "ovata" (classic green jade), although I do have access to Sunset. If ANYONE wants some jade cuttings, just let me know! I don't charge - just, maybe, you can cover shipping...? Let me know how much you want, I'll let you know if I've got enough, and I can let you know about how much USPS will charge to get it to you. A TIP: you don't need much to get started with jade. That stuff takes off, and before you know it you'll have more than you know what to do with, too! (That's how my mother and I got all our jade.)...See MoreJades and Jade Cuttings - Update pics!!!
Comments (35)Hi, Xuan! Yes, I have noticed that my plants have been putting out new growth lately! Although the night-time temperatures have dropped into the 40°F's, the days are still quite warm. I leave my plants outside for as long as possible. Hi, Norma! Thank you for stopping by! I've learned a lot from you - about the Jade's native habitat, as well as the unique varieties and sports that we have today. You are very kind to offer a Hummel's, indeed. However, I do have one, at long last. I am slowly nursing it back to health; but, if this one should fail, perhaps I could appeal to your generosity in the future. Comments (2)From what I've seen (never done it myself), you should be able to root larger cuttings (truncheons) of this plant as easily, or maybe more-so, as smaller cuttings. If there is significant new growth at the tips, you may have to prune back to firmer wood. A moisture tent and rooting hormone should improve your odds....See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
