Help with Kitchen color scheme!!

I want to paint my kitchen but I am struggling with a color scheme. I was going to do the white paneling wall with the table an accent color and the other walls something else. I'm not even sure where to begin with colors. I plan to change the flooring in the future and add a backsplash. Help!

I don't have any recommendations except this is my wood kitchens idea book and maybe you will see a color scheme you like. It has both new and older, refreshed kitchens. Not all have the same wood tone as your cabinets, so pay attention to that too.

I tend not to be an accent wall person, especially in the kitchen where there tends to already be a lot going on. I favor a large piece of pretty colorful art over accent color.

You look like you have a busy household, and I realize you snapped these pics in the middle of a busy day:) One of the most inexpensive yet high impact changes you can start with is a good kitchen clean out. See if you can find storage for some of the items you keep on the counters and on the fridge. I have limited counter space and found that I needed to just put my spices in a drawer despite my pretty spice holder - along with my knives and other utensils - I simply did not have the space on my counters. Go through your cabinets and get rid of or store elsewhere items not used in a year and possibly find room in a cabinet for countertop space stealing items. Once you do that you will be able to really see your space and decisions will be easier.

Before adding a backsplash see if the 4" splash can be removed - it usually can. Then do a simple backsplash - again you don't want to complicate the space. Some of the kitchens in my idea book have dark counters. Look at those for backsplash ideas.

No accent wall, it will just be more visual clutter in an already tight kitchen.

I agree above that working on your storage will make a huge difference in the look of your kitchen.

If you want to decorate the wall, I would find a new spot for the teacup and put a large piece of eye level art on that wall.

The lighting looks to be an issue as well. The over the sink light and the fans appear to be different styles. Do you use the fans? If not, I would consider replacing them with similar light fixtures.

It's hard to tell from the pictures but the current wall color does look a bit dingy. Changing out your bulbs to something cooler may help brighten up the space as well.

Ironcook, eventually I would like to upgrade to stainless, but u are right, the crisp white would look better with the white appliances. I think the white appliances might make the cabinets look dirty if I went creamy, etc. I guess what I am worried about-- how would the crisp white look off the family room with the teak leather couch??? Do I need to bring in white woodwork, etc???? I don't have to keep the armoire. Other thought I could warm up the two spaces with a warm green like BM Sag Harbor Gray or Dried Basil---then I guess I would have to accent with green in the living room and dining room, don't know how I would do that (maybe through pillows?) Not sure if carrying different shades of the green on the color chart might help. Just not sure how an entire whole floor would look in green????

I personally prefer it with the countertops and the cabinets are contrasting. So with very light maple cabinets I prefer dark countertops. I don't have any pictures, but my sister's kitchen has the same color cabinets as you are planning. She went with a dark countertop - Vela Brown Zodiaq (quartz) and her backsplash is amber glass mosaics (it picks up the amber color in the quartz countertop). It looks beautiful and even though she did it around 8 years ago, it doesn't look dated at all. Her floor is also maple, but it is very light, almost blonde in color and he had it installed on an angle. The only bad thing about the light colored floor is that it shows every little scratch. I don't think a lighter countertp will look bad - it sounds like it will give you a tone-on-tone look. if you really want the white subway tile, I prefer the lighter countertop with it although I have seen contrasting counterops and backsplashes that look nice too.

That is definitely colorful, but I'm not sure what you're asking for...? Budget? What are of the States do you live in? Layout of your kitchen? Without those questions answered, I am leaning towards keeping your cabinets very neutral and accenting with an aqua backsplash. And then, like you said, bring in colorful hand towels, canisters, utensil holders and decorative items. I would NOT use those colors mentioned on my cabinets. If you don't like white cabinets, you could do gray, a pretty stain, off white. I know you said your dogs get things dirty, but unless they're putting their paws on your cabinets, I don't see how they would get cabinets any dirtier from everyday use.
