Need Help Selecting Kitchen Materials/Color Scheme

Hello everyone. Just hired a furniture refinishing company who "sprays" kitchen cabinets as well as can stain cabinets. They are picking up my doors in about a week or so. So confused. Have attached pictures of my home. Want to get out of the formal phase. Just started that by doing the black and white living room. My dining room is country french, but was going to replace the chandelier with a more hip less formal one as well as take out the two end chairs and replace thenm with parsons chairs with a black scrolled initial on the back and recover the rest of the chairs with a black and white buffalo check or plain white. Do you see the direction I am going? Based on the current furnishing of my home, how do you see my kitchen going?? I have attached a picture of a kitchen in home depot that I liked (you will see it in the pictures). What do you think? I am also a big fan of Cali Wendy's kitchen. The kitchen is open to the den which has a teak color leather sectional. Just need some help with cabinet color/finish (white/off-white/darker stain and countertops!!! Like to get some opinions.

I love the pictures of your living room with the beautiful white sofa and the black accents! Also love the "rooster pillow", gorgeous colors! Great idea with that buffalo check and the paint colors in the background but then when I see your kitchen I am not sure how to continue the black and white theme except black countertops would look really pretty but I don't think you are going quite that far, right? I guess if you did real white cabs and then accent all around with black would work. Hope you get more suggestions!

twotogo, I thought I read somewhere that you should try to pull a color or two throughout your floor plans. So, yes, going on that theory I was thinking the same, as you mentioned accenting with black. We do need new countertops and I was thinking black. It is just the darn cabinets don't know if white or off-white would look good against the family room. Eventually we will be replacing the armoire with a more updated flat screen tv set -up (was thinking of having a carpenter do a built-in wall unit with a fireplace and paint the woodwork white). Maybe that would help bring in the white in the family room and have some black accents.

The homes in our area that are from the end of the Victorian age are usually done in dark green, gold, rose, deep red and maybe some dark blue. Eastern Washington didn't see any big money until the late 1800's. Many have early Craftsman elements, too, with a return of the dark timbers and earth tones. If you like earth tones, what about dark green in the library? It's a beautiful color with most woodwork (think english pub green) and would look nice with the tiles around the fireplace. The music room would be beautiful in gold/mustard, very much like the tiles around the library fireplace. In both rooms, neutral or tan/brown furnishings (maybe some leather in the library) would look great. Do you have much furniture in the music room? Something soft (like a velvet type fabric) for a comfy side chair would look beautiful in the rust/terra cotta, or maybe use the color on pillows for accents? What color is your dining room/other rooms on the first floor? Would the terra cotta/rust tone work in your dining room? Warm orange tones are always nice in a dining room and stimulate appetite/conversation. Some green and gold accents would really tie the spaces together. The entry way might be a nice place to try a little wallpaper, or maybe some stenciling. Perhaps you could find something in a natural motif that would tie in the golds, rust and dark green. It sounds like a great project and a lot of fun. Remember, paint is one of the easiest things to change if you don't like it...but I would still try some test areas and see what it looks like under different lighting/times of day, before I painted the whole room :)

Beautiful cabinets and backsplash! I would probably go with a more neutral color to really make the backsplash stand out, but if you want a deeper, richer look then one of the olive green or earth tone colors from the slate would be perfect.

Good day. My parents decided to liven up the kitchen, but are having a hard time deciding on color schemes. Initially, they decided an apple green paint as a "backsplash" (we didn't have budget for an actual fancy backsplash) but scrapped that idea when my father watched Brother vs. Brother on HGTV and they pointed out the ugliness of the wall color (green!) in the kitchen on one episode. So I came in here to ask for your help. Here are pictures of our current kitchen: Can someone suggest any possible color schemes? It will be very much appreciated. Thank you!

I think the cabinets are beautiful, and the layout looks decent, though the stark white walls and ceiling do not compliment them at all. The backsplash doesn't seem to go well either (on my monitor). I would replace the ceiling light fixture, paint the walls and ceiling a warmer color, and live with it. As megs said, live with the kitchen for several months before making a major investment - if the layout just doesn't work for your family and lifestyle, and you want to redo the whole thing, you're farther ahead if you didn't spend $5K on painting the cabinets. There may be other things in your "new to you" house that take priority over a cosmetic change to a pretty kitchen.

hi...

okay, i am decorating-challenged, so i my opinion probably doesn't count. if you are keeping your appliances, i think a crisp white would be better. ties in better with your white sofa, too. i like the black/dark counters based on your color scheme. you seem to have good instincts!

Ironcook, eventually I would like to upgrade to stainless, but u are right, the crisp white would look better with the white appliances. I think the white appliances might make the cabinets look dirty if I went creamy, etc. I guess what I am worried about-- how would the crisp white look off the family room with the teak leather couch??? Do I need to bring in white woodwork, etc???? I don't have to keep the armoire. Other thought I could warm up the two spaces with a warm green like BM Sag Harbor Gray or Dried Basil---then I guess I would have to accent with green in the living room and dining room, don't know how I would do that (maybe through pillows?) Not sure if carrying different shades of the green on the color chart might help. Just not sure how an entire whole floor would look in green????
