Would you eat produce in your garden you knew critters touched
Comments (51)Thank you. This skunk sprayed my dog and they were around tomatoes!! What a nightmare! I searched for answers everywhere and there's no information about it. The tomatoes don't smell like skunk but I'm still leery on whether they're edible. I went and got another plant. Lol, others are gone. It's just a shame because it's my first time growing anything and I was proud of them. Crazy skunk snuck right between my fence and the house to get in....See MoreEating lily buds and stems. Comments (3)buy some live traps from your local hardware store, visit farmers market or your friends and ask where is the best place to deliver your furry friends after you trap them. you need to go at least 20 miles from your home or they will make it back. to get rid of our ground-hog infestation under the porch we resorted to some drastic measures. put some lye around and down their little holes to chase them out. have not seen any since...See More3 critters eating my Canna Lilies (not snails)
Comments (22)Interesting predicament. I don't have any cannas (or arrowroot). From UofF: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/orn/brazilian_skipper.htm Let us know if any of the below in not consistent with your experience in the coming weeks. ''Mechanical control of leafrollers on a few canna plants in the landscape is relatively easy. Simply examine your cannas every couple of days, and squish any small shelters that appear. This will reduce populations of the leafroller before they can cause large amounts of defoliation. Chemical control is difficult because larvae are protected from direct chemical exposure within their leaf rolls. If deemed necessary, chemical control should be attempted when larvae are small and are still actively feeding on the leaves. Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) products are probably the best choice for chemical control. Follow the application instructions on the label of the specific Bt product. Stickers will probably need to be added to the spray because the thick waxy coating on canna leaves repels water.''...See MoreHow do you prevent critters from eating your bulbs?
Comments (29)I applied a generous layer of used coffee grounds on my newly planted bulbs last autumn. I think I lost just one crocus bulb to the skwerls. (I planted over 100 crocuses and about 30 or so species tulips.) As things have emerged this spring, I've had some leaves nipped off as the new growth was apparently too tempting and I think one or two flowers have been nibbled on too. But on the whole, things have worked out well. I have an abundant skwerl population due to the density of pines on my property and in surrounding gardens....See Morelaslaslas14
